Vietnam...The Unfinished Poem

My country said they needed me
Because this is the land of the free
Shipped me off to a foreign land
That had the name of Vietnam
Went to a class on how to survive
Things to know to come home alive
Put a weapon in my hand
Ordered to kill whoever I can
The jungle holds death all around
Moving with stealth with face to the ground
One by one Soldiers drop like flies
It breaks you up watching a good man die
Mama, Mama can't you see
They got your boy in agony
Before you know it they send you home
Where the mind has time to ponder and roam
The movie plays on before your eyes
It does not stop so don't even try
The sights, sound, faces and smell
You realize you left a living hell
At night you sleep and start to dream
You wake up sweating and start to scream
Mama, Mama can't you see
At times I'm still in agony...

And like the bus driver you were in the most stressful position a person can be put in - no control over their life, just do as told.

Driving kids compared to fighting in a WAR...The SAME???? Sorry I don't see the comparison, but thanks for reading it!

@RobertNappi2 It is not what you are doing that causes the stress. It is the lack of control that you have over what you do. There are obviously other far worse occupational stresses in warfare than a bus driver has but having to be at point a followed by b at a certain time means you are not allowed to control what you do. Same as in the military.

Wow...that was almost TOO, real! So real that it hurt!

When I first came back from overseas...My Mother put her loving hand on my cheek and asked me. " What did they do to my boy?" I spent 2 weeks in a hotel room withdrawing from heroin, then sat down and wrote this so my Mom could TRY to understand what it was like...I was 19 years old!

@RobertNappi2 yes, I know kinda first hand...my brother was in the Navy...search and rescue, died at 59, diabetic, had to be brought on by agent orange! May be why it hit me 'straight on!' I wish you well...
