Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms...
A LOVE LETTER
I sometimes wish I could rewind the clock, re-set time
Back to when life was slower, innocent
And you were fully, completely, if only fleetingly mine
Back to days of sleepy heads and stories read
School bus days, silly faces and snuggles before bed
Brown paper bags with notes tucked inside
The no’s and why’s and sticky goodbye’s
I’d hold you longer, your hands, tighter
Look deeper into your child’s eyes
And I’d say to hell with the rules, feel no guilt,
over dust and laundry heaps and spoiled milk
I sometimes wish I had the wisdom then,
that took all these years of trial and error to learn
For you, my child,
The times of wild, tender, and wandering vines, you were
For that I yearn
The flour on noses
The handprints on doors
The magic of your hopes and bright belief’s
The muddy shoe prints and toys scattered on floors
I’d breathe your sweet breath in, just a little deeper
I’m growing old now, with memories becoming less clear
Yet still, you are the innkeeper of my heart
My dear child
I hope that all you remember of me someday is my love for you
It’s from that seed of joy I planted from which you grew
It’s all we need to know
It’s all I ever knew
The one and only thing that’s fully true
Remember, my hands are always here to hold
I love you,
Mom <3
