I've been working on a Mother's Day poem for days and can't seem to pull it together. Instead, I give you my shitty morning.

Alone

Wrapped in a shawl of loneliness,
weighted like the draped neckline of
a cocktail dress owned in the 80s,
pulling me further and further down,
settle in the empty vessel of home.
Oh, the visitors come: friends, children,
grandchildren, siblings, the mowers
stop to chat with the grieving widow,
think they brighten my day, and they do.
No one kisses the back of my hand,
the nape of my neck, leans to whisper
“I love you” at three in the morning,
or rubs a soothing lotion over
the pebbled skin of my hot, dry back.

Nice. Smooth and gritty at the same time.

Some days just are...nothing can be found in those days to relieve that deeper loneliness that comes right in the middle of life as it happens!
