In 1986 Ennio Morricone delivered an amazingly moving score for the British film The Mission, starting Jeremy Irons & Robert De Niro. It was set in Sourh America, much in the Paraguayan jungle around the majestic Iguazu Falls and the music needed to match the spectacular scenery, Morricone, the master did not disappoint and the score won both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award, but surprisingly lost out to Herbie Hancock and Round Midnight for the Oscar. Here Morricone himself conducts in a live audio recording of the main theme…also known as Gabriel’s Oboe, over the years it has become a familiar and well loved tune.
