Some years ago, my son and his wife went to South America on their honeymoon…I must admit I was truly envious of the itinerary they put together which took in five or six countries across the continent, and one of the highlights, because they got married in February, meant it perfectly coincided with “Carnival Time” in Rio de Janeiro. This iconic song written by Ary Barroso in 1939 and performed here by Brazilian bossa nova maestro Antonio Carlos Jobin, epitomises the colour and vibrancy of Rio and Carnival. It’s titled Aqualiro do Brasil (Watercolours of Brazil), but more commonly known around the world simply as “Brazil”….
