Slim Dusty was an Australian cultural icon,, born in New South Wales to Irish immigrant parents in 1927, he had a prolific musical career with over 100 albums in the Australian Country and Bush Ballad genres. One of his best known records was A Pub With No Beer… the song which was written by Gordon Parsons was an international hit for him.
This has enormous significance to me as it was the first pop record I heard, bought and had played on the BBC in I think 1960. Until then I had been well protected from such music, surrounded by classical music.
There has been some shady work behind the origin of this song:
My sister claimed that when she lived at Taylor's Arm NSW that she was close to the original pub.
