East Of The Sun and West Of The Moon is a Scandinavian fairytale based on old Norse folklore, it has many different variants across most Scandinavian & Northern European countries and the Norwegian one ‘Ostenfor Sol Og Vestenfor Mane’ inspired Pal Waaktaar of a-ha to write a song, giving it that title in English, as they write and perform all their songs only in English. It became the title track for their 4th studio album in 1990, and here they perform it live on NRK TV Oslo the following year.

Just as an aside…the highly acclaimed saxophonist Sigurd Kohn who perfomed on this track and who was a regular touring musician with the band during the late 80s and early 90s was sadly killed along with his 12 year old son in the Asian Tsunami on Boxing Day in 2004, the 20th anniversary of which we recently commemorated.

Wonderfully beautiful voice that I will never get tired of listening to. 🎶 ❤️. Love the Sax player. So sad to read about his and his son's passing.

Yes…I read an obituary to remember them posted on behalf of the band on Boxing Day ….
