Africa is a vast continent with a variety of cultures, ethnicities, regional languages, and musical influences and it’s incorrect to lump all of its music into one. However there is one singer who does fugure prominently when we think of African music …so much so that back in the 60s & 70s she was widely known as “Mama Africa”.
I speak of course of South African, singer, songwriter, actress and civil rights activist - Miriam Makeba.
Here she sings a song of protest live in concert. - Soweto Blues
