In 1982 Raymond Brigg’s children’s tale The Snowman was first shown on British television with Welsh choirboy Aled Jones singing the song Walking in the Air, written for the film by the film’s producer Howard Blake. It entered the charts and was a hit at that time in the U.K. and has since become a perennial favourite, especially around Christmastime. A few years later I heard this version of the song sung by Norwegian and World Pop Idol winner Kurt Nilsen and thought…yes!

I prefer Aled Jones.

Well of course you would! I like both.

That was very beautiful. I don't think I've heard of it (book, film, or music) but I see it's available here so I'll have to watch it sometime soon.

Here in the U.K. we get it repeated on TV regularly for kids around Christmastime…it’s quite a charming little cartoon with music.

@Marionville I'm surprised something so popular never showed up on our U.K. channels here but maybe we'll have to add it to our traditions on our own.

@Marionville It is a lovely book and a lovely film.

@rogerbenham Yes…quite charming.
