It’s a case of east meets west today with virtuoso violinist Vanessa-Mae who is from Singapore performing most beautifully both by singing and playing the violin …an old traditional ballad from the North East of Scotland which was incorporated by Max Bruch as the third movement into his 1880 Scottish Fantasia violin concerto - Am A’ Doun For Lack O’ Johnny. This promo video for her recording of the song also includes some oriental martial arts/dance for good measure…though I think a Scottish highland reel would probably have been more appropriate!
This was so beautiful I had to turn up the sound. Parts of the tune sound very familiar. I may have problems with remembering peoples names but sometimes my memory amazes me.
This one is a song I was raised singing from an early age. This is not a Scottish singer singing…unfortunately the words she sings have been Anglisised. This one’s a more authentic version….
@Marionville Thank you. Funny, but a former partner named McRae who came from a highland Scottish family (We did discuss this in the past) I heard a lot of this clan and Scottish traditions (including their feud with the Gordon family). Our trip to Apple Cross in the NW corner brought a lot of her heritage to light for me, including the family alcoholism.
@pedigojr When we delve into our ancestry we have to be prepared to receive some unwelcome information..
