Why?
He's Catholic!
You expect him to make a pilgrimage to Mecca?
Or would you rather he renounce his religion?
IF HE WAS AN AGNOSTIC OR ATHEIST HE WOULDN'T BE PRESIDENT!
Sometimes people expect the moon!
You'd rather he was an Evangelical?

Hey, at least Catholics accept evolution and the big bang theory, that climate change is caused by humans, women have (almost) equal rights, the Bible should not be taken literally, government and religion should be separated, that gays should (at least) not be condemned but rather welcomed, and that atheists are not necessarily going straight to hell!
There are many other ways they can be seen as distinct from, and not quite as horribly bad, as fundamentalist Evangelical Christians.
One concrete indicator: Joe Biden is a devout Catholic, but he hasn't been excommunicated for being pro-choice.
It's not much, but since I was brought up in "the Church," I thought I should point out they are at least TRYING to live in the real world.
That they--and all other religionists--are dead wrong in pretending they KNOW whether or not 'god' even exists goes, of course, without saying.

Women are almost equal?!?! In what alternate universe? Are you trying to gaslight me? Because it’s not working. How many cases of child rape by pedophile priests that were covered up by the church do they have to discover or how many bodies do they have to dig up of indigenous children on church property? How many have to die because Pope says condoms and abortion is against church? Apparently we haven’t reached that number because brainwashed papist apologists like you and Biden will never admit the true evil and greed of the RCC.

@Killtheskyfairy I'm not an apologist, for the Catholic Church or for men in general, most of whom (including me) should be neutered or castrated. The world would be better off without it OR the "Church, " or any religion.
Unfortunately, men behaving badly is a fact of life; so much so I hope you (or somebody you know)' hasn't already found that out by personal. experience. But I wouldn't be surprised.
And you don't have to tell me it's ludicrous to even TALK about an "organized feminist wing" of such a retrograde, medieval, relic, but it agitates for things like women priests, an end to celibacy, allowing abortion, and the approved use of contraception,, and the Pope HAS appointed women to high Vatican office for the first time, among other things.Im not saying any of this groundbreaking, but it's...a small glimmer of progress, anyway. Will it do any good? Who knows?
But by comparison, you can't find a feminist ANYTHING in the Evangelical scheme of things; the 'Bible,' already tells you where women stand; the same Bible that explains the universe was created in seven days, and will end as soon as possible, so Jesus will come back!
The "Church" is not delusionally insane enough to think wiping out all life on earth is actually a GOOD thing. They're not sure WHAT the Book of Revelations means, exactly.
But everything's relative.

@Storm1752 so in your mind one branch of a ridiculous grifter cult has added some women to management so we should give them credit for it against the hundreds of years of deliberately keeping women down as second class baby makers, raping children and covering it up, and in general causing untold deaths and misery? Got it!

@Killtheskyfairy I'm not defending the Catholic Church; I thought I made that clear. I take back the "glimmer of hope" characterization; there is none. But if you want to talk about one religion as it was centuries ago, how far back do you want to go? To when this fictitious creature 'Jesus' was supposedly born? There was no "Church" then... Do you think the Romans were any better than the 'Church' at it's most cruel?
WAS there ever a Golden Age when everything was utopian? Compared to what went on in every era of the past, everywhere, it could be said, comparatively speaking, THIS is a Golden Age, if you're an optimist. If not, this might be even worse, considering "we" appear to be headed for a catastrophic crash.
Like I said, everything's relative. The "Church" compared to Evangelism...hmmm...or radical Islam! Now THAT'S a nasty bunch, right? There MAY be better days coming, but if we hold everybody alive today responsible for everything their ancestors did at one time or another...is there anybody innocent of the worst crimes imaginable?
All I care about is what's going on right now, and an opinion of it depends completely on perspective.
Is the U.S. one of the best places on earth, or one of the worst? An argument could be made either way.
My only point was, despite their past AND some things you point out about the present, which are indefensible, within their reality they are trying in some areas to do the "right thing." But maybe to you that's like saying Jeffery Dahmer was nice to his mother.
I may think, and do, it'd be better if it didn't exist at all, but it would also be nice if people were different in general, and we didn't need armies and police and a legal system...a lot of things would be better if there weren't, for instance, Republicans.
But if you stop and look around, we are SURROUNDED by things that make no sense.
That's just the way it is.

@Storm1752 yeah, I like the Jeffrey Dahmer analogy.

@Killtheskyfairy Well, I don't like your extreme absolutism. By shutting everybody out who's not god-hating atheists, you alienate yourself and consign your tribe to loud-but-irrelevant status. There are degrees of criminality. You don't send a Bernie Madoff to the electric chair, and when one religion shows progress and tolerance we should acknowledge that , not throw them in with extremist far-right religions who want to strip us of what rights we already have.
When the Theoracy comes knocking on your door and hauls you away to the re-education camp, you can console yourself you were RIGHT, damn it.
