The worst book (in my opinion) I have ever read and the book I have disliked the most are two different things.
The worst book was a Sci-fi Novel called Mantis (AKA Eat Them Alive) by "Pierce Nace"
Mr Nace as far as I am aware never wrote anything else again and that does not surprise me. 160 pages of a deformed lunatic, cover in shit (literally) using his platoon of giant praying Mantis to visit revenge on the Texas gangsters who cut off his willy for screwing them on a drug deal.
It really is as bad as it sounds, and has the writing style of a petulant 5 year old fantasizing about what he wants to do to the kind in the playground who stole his lollipop.
I have never seen the words "and then" used so many times per page.

The Book I disliked the most was Dodger by Terry Pratchett, mostly because ti was disappointing, and tragic, written when he was very ill and one of his last works, it abandons his style all together, is not a discworld novel, is not funny and perhaps was a last ditch attempt at literature, but fails miserably (in my opinion) reading it was like watching a once brilliant friend, descend in to slow and undignified death.

The Troop by Nick Cutter. The story was silly, grotesque, disgusting, there were no likable characters, everyone died.

Either the second or third book in the ASOIAF series. Everyone loves it, but when you kill all the characters I was emotionally invested in there was just no reason to continue reading. I have no idea why those books are so popular.

Posted by dfrossI enjoyed "The Dictionary of Lost Words", a historical fiction about the creating of the Oxford-English Dictionary and the fight for women's suffrage in the UK.

Posted by ReignmondA highly biased selection.

Posted by ReignmondI read this back in 2018. Absolutely loved it. It is an oddly small sized book, so it is good to travel with. [amazon.com]

Posted by ReignmondActually read this some time ago (46 years) while trying to figure out why I simply could not believe in Jesus or God or anything else I was being told by Bible Thumpers.
