I was just at Gilmer woods in Portland Oregon and they have a whole room of book matched woods for instruments.
I’ve always wanted to visit Gilmer Woods.
Usually, I get “stuck” at Powells Books if I get to Portland
@Haemish1 Powell's is another world, have to be careful something interesting does not hit you on the head.
Looks like it is great work, the test would be in playing it which by the post of others would be great.
Thanks!
Not to brag, but it sounds exactly like a mandolin
Chris Thile is my favorite mandolin artist. This is a beautiful instrument.
Chris is a marvel- I don’t think there’s any genre he can’t play!
what a wonderful skill! this is a beautiful piece of art - for the arts ?
I've wanted to learn to play the mandolin...it's lovely
So what makes a good mandolin...
Look for one that’s made with solid woods (maple body and a spruce top are most common), as opposed to plywood instruments (often made in China)
Beyond the materials, it’s a matter of graduating the the thickness of the top and back as well as proper bracing that separates the good instruments from lesser ones.
@Haemish1 that's quite interesting. I'm searching YouTube for mandolin tunes now, lol
@Freespirit64
If you’re not already familiar with him, Chris Thile is a monster musician/mandolin player.
A pretty instrument. How does it sound?
?
I’m very pleased with its tone, and some of the professional guys who played it were complimentary about it
