Politics is not a , however a commonality they both share are zelots. I consider myself a liberal and for being among you and hearing your views some liberals have called me a trader others have called me two faced. I have lost friends over this, but I'm willing to sacrifice that to be me and I don't feel I need to defend myself, because my words have always done that. Here is what I see, we as Americans have split and there are too many on both sides who don't just disagree, they actually hate one another. Here is my question, is there a way to talk to one another? Can reason, empathy and humility on both sides fix some of this irrational hatered from both camps? If not what "possible" solution do you think might work?
First, don't call conservatives racists, nazis, and fascists.
Second, do not shut down conservative speakers in public spaces, like college campuses.
Third, do not block roads or attack people's property.
Fourth, do not attempt to block people from entering a political event they want to attend.
That's a start..
I'm with you, and l think these conversations happen quite a bit. It's when one starts with the name calling and making up bullshit is when it all goes downhill, and then nothing is accomplished. Very sad really.
I agree 100%. We need rational thinkers who are willing to say, you have a valid point, let me consider that. What we have is people holding party line no matter if they agree or not. Or they're unwilling to consider any other options that go against there views.
@paul1967 Post this verbatim under 'politics' and see the response. you know,, just out of curiosity. Better yet, put it in the socialist group or Trump pinata group.. haha Who knows, you may get some decent discussions.
@Captain_Feelgood I had to make very minor changes because it wouldn't have made sense the way it was written but if you read it I think you will agree I made no meaningful changes that altered my point. I put it in politics.
We have to have face to face conversations. I'm supremely confident that if both sides sat down and had intimate political conversations that were mutually respectful, we might solve some major issues. Unfortunately, in our world today most people seem to lack respect for other people and their differing opinions and have lost the skills to debate issues in a calm and rational manner. The internet has brought about the keyboard warrior who can say whatever he or she wants and have really no consequences for being cruel and disrespectful.
I face that all the time, but in my experience the way to deal with those people is to not retaliate. Don't let their offensive words offend you. I ask questions in a polite way and if I can see that's not working, I move on, but it works more than you might think.
@paul1967 I get that but in the end you still aren't solving anything. People need to really open their minds and take down the walls so they can communicate better.
Many Dems, and many in the group will not accept Trump until they realize all the great things he is doing - and some are slow, they may never realize it.
Can I ask, do you see anything that Trump is doing that isn't great. I'm not asking you to change your position, I'm just asking, could he do better in any area?
@paul1967 I wish he would lay off tweeting...lol
He needs to explain steps he's going to take to fix issues. Not just make a blanket statement about turning a negative situation into a positive.
@paul1967 I'm not happy about the lack of progress with healthcare.
