Since becoming more vocal about my political views on my personal Facebook page during the last few years, I have been "unfriended" by approximately 30 people. I understand the response, "You don't need 'em," but it is mind boggling that this is how people respond to people who have differing political views.
Recently by best friend from high school unfriended me. Many people who have unfriended me were acquaintances from a town I previously lived in in California. We worked together on community projects to protect their property values and keep the town "local" oriented. They acted like they love unique qualities in people, nature and so forth. At one time they praised me, but now I see how their minds really operate. I don't really add anyone as a friend on Facebook anymore.
I quit paying attention to those kind of stats long ago.. In fact, l find l am checking my FB less and less these last few months. Like the Lyle Lovett song says ''there's too much living goin on around''..
I started joining political groups a few years ago so I'd stop talking politics with family and friends. I normally just post photos from travelling. But the other day I posted one simple post supporting Kavanaugh and left-leaning acquaintances had a fit and unfriended.
I have been putting myself in pre-social media days before people were so connected online. In the old days when people moved, they generally lost connection. Only good friends kept in contact. Technically it should be the same today (people moving on), but it is interesting to observe why people cut ties online.
