Yesterday's hike was like the "Sound of Music." We hiked the Pacific Crest Trail southward from Stevens Pass, WA.

Blue skies. Snow-capped mountains in all directions. alpine meadows filled with wildflowers. New snow in the mountains.

With four women, I hiked 6.6 miles total with 2,000 feet in elevation gain. Slippery snow was on the trail in places.

We met a woman from Colorado, who thru-hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail last year. She had returned to backpack for three days.

Karen and I recognized her from last August, when we day hiked on the PCT. I remember giving her fresh fruit and vegetables with ice cubes from my lunch. She was thrilled.

"Were you cold last night at Lake Mary Jane?" Karen asked. "Yes, I was," she replied, smiling. "It was cold last night in Wenatchee," Karen said.

Rare yellow Spring Beauty flowers covered a hillside. Spring Beauties are normally light pink.

Photos were taken by me and my hiking partner, Karen.

You won't see mountains like that in Texas. Will have to journy there one day.

Posted by CallMeDaveI've never been a big wildflower person, but this is the season for it here in Appalachia. Other people can identify every variety. I'm not there yet.
