Hello. I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Sarah and I am an alcoholic and an addict. My sobriety date is January 28, 2002. I can say today that I have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body, like the Big Book tells us. I am working with a sponsee using The Twelve Secular Steps by Bill W. (No, not THAT Bill W.!). Thanks to this sponsee, I am attending secular meetings that I never knew existed! I look forward to being a part of this group. Peace, Sarah
I live near to where AA was founded and there are hundreds of traditional type meetings here. There are only about six to eight agnostic type meetings here. I was one of a small group to get these going. Judging by the great response, more are being added. To be listed in the meeting book, AA central office requires that we read 12 steps. But no other prayers said. It’s easy to start a meeting but a little harder to get volunteers to come early to set up. Like if we want coffee. And that’s not required either. Ppl just bring their own pop or water or snacks.
@Imatheistically I believe it’s required to be listed in our AA meeting schedule book. I’m not even attending those anymore cuz same format for al, free form discussion. There are a few ALWAYS commenters who say the same thing.....blah, blah.
Posted by Fibonacci1618This is an article discussing the differences and similarities between a 12 Step Program and SMART Recovery. I'm curious about your thoughts or experiences between the two..... [thefix.com]
