Hey. Recovering addict here, will be a year on May 8th. One day at a time.
Awesome! My clean date is May 1st, also known as "May Day". Of course we all know "mayday" is the international signal for distress and when I went to that NA meeting that day, I was in some serious distress. I will be seven years clean this May 1st! Sending wishes for strength in your recovery!
Congratulations. It is such a hard road to walk down. I have a year in on May 5th. The fact that our days are so close made me happy. I like making new connections. It has been difficult to branch out and find new friends. I go to a local Unitarian Universalist Church. Have you ever considered? Most of the people there are atheists and agnostics. it has really helped me to stay on the path. I never bought in to the whole "if you have one drink or drug then you have to start over." If you had one drink or got high a few times over the past year, that is much healthier than the way we all used to live. You should be proud of yourself.
Thank you! And i haven't been. I get enough "church" in the rooms lol
Ah, so my birthday is the same day as your "re-birth day!" I imagine you will appreciate the 8th of May more than I will!
March 30 was my "re-birth day." 2 years sober (alcohol.) When this first started, two weeks seemed impossible. Fortunately, the treatment center I checked into was top-notch and helped me through.
Cool! I had 5 years January 21. Do you get push back on the higher power thing? How do you handle it or is it no big deal where you are?
Not personal push back. I'm pretty open about being an atheist and straight up refuse to pray or read anything that starts a prayer for a group, but I seem to be respected.
