Science is the pursuit of knowledge of our world, what we can sense, observe, measure.
Philosophy is abstract thought, not necessarily anything to do with reality.

Knowledge is useless if we don't apply it to be useful. Science is the tool but Philosophy determines how the tool is used.

The big difference between science and philosophy is the introduction of numbers and measurement. Only with these can you get a "handle" on the twists, turns and progress of human advancement.
All science is mathematics is another way of saying this.

"Philosophy determines how the tool is used." Could you kindly explain how this happens?

Observe our thoughts. Measure our compassion. Sense our peace. Should we not continue with our pursuit for happiness?

Science cane out of what was called natural philosophy. Some of our best but early scientists were members of religious orders. These were in the pursuit of god via the study of the natural world
As the studies deepened the concept of god started to be challenged.

I agree . Philosophy does not have a stage where anything is put to the test of practicality so anyone can call themselves a philosopher without any proof or reputation to protect.

@Mcflewster I took philosophy classes as a major and math as a minor. I took a feminist theory class and as a small paper attempted to show that the income disparity between men and women was slowing evaporating using the available statistics. The Prof rejected the paper because she thought that no matter how much good math I might offer it would never convince her. She mentioned Kant as a part of her position. St this point I was wondering if I just stepped into the turf war between philosophy and math. ?
