Hi fellow wordsmith. I am not published. I write essays and articles about personal experiences. Heavy on travel and family. I have wondered how to have these kinds of things published in travel magazines. Looks like an interesting group!
Get a copy of Writer's Market 2018. Best source for current markets. You can also Google various markets to get lists of online and/or print markets. Just remember one important thing and it cannot be stressed enough: Follow the writer's guidelines of each publisher to whom you submit exactly according to their requirements. If you do that one simple thing, it will reduce the chances of your work being rejected without being read. Oh, and please, please, do not say anything about your work being copyrighted and don't include any notations about the legal status of your work. Now, go forth and get published.
Bear in mind that until your rejection collection is equal in number to the words you have written, you haven't yet tried to get published.
I'm in the same spot. I write articles about politics and mental health, so a lot of the publishing info writers groups have isn't really relevant to me
Welcome! You have lots of options although you may have to do some research. Many writers build their portfolios by getting small pieces published without pay. Libraries often have books about finding places to submit your work. Try blog sites, newsletters, small magazines. Some successful authors supplement their pieces with photos or art so they can offer editors a full package.
Welcome! I have several self published novels on Amazon.com, and I am hunting for a publisher. We scribblers need to stick together.
