Introduction & ArmadilloCon
Hey all, I'm brand new to the site (and this group, obviously). By way of brief introduction, I write short-fiction of the speculative variety (SF/F/H), and while I've had around a dozen of my stories published, I'm currently in a dry spell where I've been steadily collecting rejection slips for the past year. It's a little discouraging, and I'm hoping to get some fresh motivation and camaraderie from my interactions here.
Also, there's a really phenomenal literary convention taking place the first weekend of August in Austin called ArmadilloCon. I'll be attending, and was wondering if anyone else here was planning on going.
Your in Texas and with the political situation there has to be something inspiring. Don't mean to say anything hurtful, if I could put three words together I would be all over this. Think Steven King, or someone else. Mentioned him as the only thing off his I have read was his book on writing.
That can be great fun
I am a "first reader" for an author friend also proof reading and editing.
Welcome. I know the feeling of the dry spell. My operating budget is 500 words a day, but life can get in the way sometimes. I get my best inspiration when I'm driving or having a hot shower. Sometimes things need to percolate in my experience.
@GabrielM There is something to being pounded by hot water which I find helps me concentrate. Plan. Plot. Solve problems. 250/day is good work - if I am in flow, I can punch that out in less than an hour. If the Muse has taken the day off, it can take a lot longer.
Would like to, but can't. Austin is a wonderful place, even without the Con.
Such as what if some Neanderthal or Denisovan remains were found so well preserved that the DNA was intact, and then some human embryos were used to supply the mitochondria, and implanted into female volunteers.
It would make for a fascinating series of short stories.
Story of my life.
Very good!
@Goodhope458 I've supplied plot ideas to quite a few authors locally - and then helped them develop the idea over a few coffees, and even edited their results. It keeps my pleasantly occupied.
