I've been working in a house where two teenage boys are home for the summer. The house has two levels plus a basement. The kids seem to stay as far from one another as possible, and if they need anything ("Mom is on the phone and wants to talk to you!" ) they holler. And I mean yell.
One of the kids, though, is named Wyatt, and when his brother calls him, it sounds to me like "What!" Which leads to loud conversations across levels like:
"WHAT!"
"WHAT?"
"What!"
"What do you want?"
"WYATT!"
I just paint the room I'm in and pretend I'm not there.
Once the kids grow up and go their separate ways, they might find they have huge regrets for being unappreciative of each other. I think parents could do a lot in reminding kids of the importance of appreciating their siblings. Regrets really hit home is if one sibling dies ... then its too late. As uncomfortable as it is, I'd talk to one of the parents about your observation and encourage them to talk to the boys.
Really? I have to ask have you raised boys?
@CallMeDave I just threw that out there for consideration. No, I haven't raised boys but have been around enough (both the hard headed variety and the sensitive) that I've come to the conclusion that talking matters ... you might get reaction but you're planting seeds and down the road that one conversation could make all the difference.
@Earthling50 I'm hired to paint, not counsel.
Sounds like a short story premise to me
We should collaborate.
