Australian First Nations (there were about 800 distinct and different clans or tribes occupying the Australian continent) People have been here for upto 50,000 years. Their mythology and culture recognises many demons.

● Malingee is a nocturnal malignant Australian Aboriginal spirit. In Aboriginal mythology, they prefer to avoid humans, but when provoked, they will slay mercilessly with a stone knife. Malingees have knees of stone that knock together, making a scraping sound, and have eyes that smolder like the coals of a cold fire. These features were supposed to make it possible for humans to detect and avoid nearby Malingees.

● Mokoi (lit. "evil spirit" ) is an evil spirit who killed sorcerers who used black magic. Also known to kidnap children at night to eat them. The Murngin people believed that death was rarely caused by old age and instead it was the work of a mokoi, who would bring about some sort of disease or fatal accident.

● (from the Tiwi people), Papinijuwaris are one-eyed giants who live in a large hut where the sky ends. Shooting stars are said to be Papinijuwaris stalking across the heavens with a burning firestick in one hand and a fighting club in the other. Papinijuwaris feed on the bodies of the dead and the blood of the sick. They are able to locate sick people by smell, and upon finding a victim will make themselves invisible and suck the person's blood without leaving a wound. As the sick person weakens, the Papinijuwari makes itself small enough to enter the body through the mouth and drinks up the rest of the blood from the inside.

● The bunyip is a large mythical creature from Australian Aboriginal mythology, said to lurk in swamps, billabongs, creeks, riverbeds, and waterholes.

The origin of the word bunyip has been traced to the Wemba-Wemba or Wergaia language of Aboriginal people of South-Eastern Australia. However, the bunyip appears to have formed part of traditional Aboriginal beliefs and stories throughout Australia, although its name varied according to tribal nomenclature. In his 2001 book, writer Robert Holden identified at least nine regional variations for the creature known as the bunyip across Aboriginal Australia. Various written accounts of bunyips were made by Europeans in the early and mid-19th century, as settlement spread across the country.

● A Nargun, according to Gunai/Kurnai tribal legends,is a fierce half-human half-stone creature that lived in the Den of Nargun, a cave under a rock overhang behind a small waterfall located in the Mitchell River National Park, Victoria, Australia. Aboriginal legend describes the Nargun as a beast entirely made of stone except for its hands, arms and breast. The fierce creature would drag unwary travellers into its den. Any weapon directed against it would be turned back on its owner.

● Thinan-malkia is an evil spirit in Australian Aboriginal mythology that captures victims with nets that entangle their feet.

● Wambeen is an evil god of Australian Aboriginal mythology. Known for his lightning hurling figure, like many other subjects of ancient tales, Wambeen prefers travelers for his victims. Said to come down to earth to smite wanderers, he was recognized only by his smell of evil.

● Julana is a lecherous spirit who surprises women by burrowing beneath the sand, leaping out, and raping them. He was alive, and wandered the Earth with his father, Njirana, during the Dreamtime.

● Kidili (or Kidilli) was an ancient moon-man who attempted to rape some of the first women on Earth. The Wati-kutjara wounded him in battle, castrating him with a boomerang, and he died of his wounds in a waterhole. The women he was trying to rape became the Pleiades.

● Kurdaitcha (or kurdaitcha man) is a ritual "executioner" in Australian Aboriginal culture (specifically the term comes from the Arrernte people). The word is also used by Europeans to refer to the shoes worn by the Kurdaitcha, woven of feathers and human hair and treated with blood. The indigenous name for the shoes is interlinia in Northern Australia and intathurta in the South. Other spellings of Kurdaitcha are Cadiche and Kadaitcha.

● Kinie Ger is an evil half-man, half-quoll beast that hunts and kills the innocent with his spear, until he is himself killed in an ambush.

● Thardid Jimbo is a character in Australian Aboriginal mythology. He was a cannibal giant, ultimately defeated by the resourcefulness of the family of a hunter he had killed.

● The Yara-ma-yha-who is a legendary creature found in Australian Aboriginal mythology. According to legend, the creature resembles a little frog-like man with red fur, a very big head, a large mouth with no teeth and suckers on the ends of its hands and feet.
The Yara-ma-yha-who is said to live in fig trees. Instead of hunting for food, it is described as waiting for an unsuspecting traveller to rest under the tree. The creature then drops down and uses its suckers to drain the victim's blood. After that it swallows the person, drinks some water, and then takes a nap. When the Yara-ma-yha-who awakens, it regurgitates the victim, leaving them shorter than before. The victim's skin also has a reddish tint to it that it didn't have before. It repeats this process several times. At length, the victim is transformed into a Yara-ma-yha-who themselves.

According to legend, the Yara-ma-yha-who is only active during the day and only targets living prey. "Playing dead" until sunset (it is said to only hunt during the day) is offered as a ploy to avoid attack.
