I often wonder about the reasons we all have to get into writing. Many of us are top down in approach but it is down up stories that I like the most.
Take for example a local writer Alan Bleasdale. Alan was a teacher in a run down state school. He was given the job of teaching remedial english to teenagers. Unfortunately all the text books were of the "See spot run" ilk. Unable to find anything that would hold their attention he decided to write his own. A series of funny stories revolving around "Scully" a young lad archetypal of his classroom audience.
The stories became popular and were aired on local radio. This led to TV work and some of the most iconic 80s series. Anyone in the UK during that time will remember "Boys from the black stuff" and the character Yossa Hughes capturing the nations heart. All because he needed the correct tools to work with to teach.
