Book blurbs... anyone great at them? Any tips? I have a couple guides I'm working with, but marketing is not my forte, and the process is making me feel like a boasting asshole.

@Lysistrata -- what is the nature of the blurb you need to write? Short self bio or book promo blurb?

Promo blurb to advertise for beta readers.

@Lysistrata -- The trick on those is to keep them as short, positive, and compelling as possible. Lede line should hook the interest. Next two lines designed to build drama/suspense. Final two lines to slam the door with their feet firmly trapped in it.

What I just outlined is the 5 line ideal minimum, though it is not uncommon to find them at 8 to 10 lines. I've seen a few longer, but they start losing effect fast after 7 lines. If you feel free to message me with a little detail, perhaps I could give some direction or at least a swift boot in the right direction.

@evidentialist I would love to do that. I'm editing with a client at the moment. I'll send you a message in a few hours. Thank you!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by book blurbs. That term typically refers to a blurb/paragraph/words that someone else provides for your manuscript pre- or post-publication. Where are you in the process? I might be able to provide clarity, if not blurbs.

Thank you very much, Sooz. I'm preparing a request for beta readers and I need to write a blurb for the request. It just feels yucky and awkward.
