I am a published author of a professional book (ISBN 1861001789). BTW, to the best of my knowledge, it is the only programming book that quotes Moliere and Shakespeare and in context. I am in the middle of writing a book about Atheism. This is a serious, though at times funny, book that uses the various bibles as well as modern science to debunk god (no capital first letter intended).
Any idea how to approach publishers? How about the publishers among us?

Feel free to reply to any comment by clicking the "Reply" button.Back when I first decided to write, I picked up a gigantic book called the Writer's Market. I think they're online now, but it's a big compilation of publishers, what they're looking for, and how to submit your work to them.
I think my edition was 2007, and I still haven't published (mostly because I'm a procrastinating chicken) but it was enough to convince me that even I could get something published. Someday.

To my (limited) knowledge, most publish prefer you start with a query letter. If you're looking to approach publishers that's where I would start.
