I have been working on a book about my life with Autism, misunderstandings about Autistic folks, and general life lessons. I have been able to do a lot of things many would never think an Autistic person could do like graduate from college (which became a viral video) and run for political office. Any advice on which publishers would be interested in publishing such a book?
Try self publishing an ebook. Keep more of the money. Kindle Direct Publishing is linked to Amazon so your marketing and retail connections are already in place.
Running your work through an editor is also a good idea and I don't mean to impugn your work. I thought I wrote well enough but didn't get a story published online until I let an editor hone it to something publishable. A little ego check is good from time to time.
I've been considering doing self publishing. I'm just worried the book wouldn't be able to get the reach it needs if I self publish.
Don't know. Good luck with it. I'm an asparagus (my way of joking about having Asperger's) but learnt to survive ive in society. I hate loud noises and large gatherings, especially of strangers. I also don't recognise faces at all well, but I've learned to just pretend I remember them. I can remember details, but not the face, so once we've been talking a while I start to recall who they are.
I too managed to achieve quite a bit. I became the technical manager for a multinational company, in control of 6 countries in Africa, and simultaneously ran the sales division for the same company. After 26 years I left, came to Spain and started a publishing company, with 3 titles, After another 25 years I retired, and now draw my pension.
There's nothing that people without severe autism cannot achieve, we just need time to adjust and learn how to handle the world.
