I’m a voracious reader. I once described, in passing, the stack of four or five books on my nightstand and a friend commented “a good book doesn’t let you cheat on it.” That gave me pause as I’ve kind of always been this way, and guess I assumed everybody else was too. Lol. Sure there’s always that book that keeps you up so late you have to call in sick the next morning, but I find that just because a story is good doesn’t mean that’s what I’m in the mood for. I mean don’t tv watchers follow multiple shows? How are books any different ??‍♀️
Thoughts?

I'm the same way, though a lot of the time I would wind up reading multiple books because I would misplace one and start another. Some books can make a very interesting combination. Hemmingway's A Moveable Feast and Orwell's Down And Out In Paris And London are very different looks at the same cities.

Agree. I always have a few on the go at once - a solid serious one, and a few light ones I get through quickly, and also a book of poetry for when I am in that mood.

When I was in high school, I read multiple books at the same time all the time and was surprised when people reacted with awe or amazement that I did. At one time I was reading The Old Man & the Sea by Hemingway, Science Fiction Hall of Fame (various short stories) and Das Kapital by Karl Marx.

Having them all be vastly different like that has always been the way to make sure I don't get them confused. Nothing like expecting a character from one book to show up in another

I don't read much, and even less fiction, as I prefer to create and I would hate to become merely a different flavour of other authors.
However, If I do find a book that truly interests me then there's no stopping until I have finished it. Everyone has their own quirks, really.

I do this too.?

I personally have always had an issue staying focused and finishing books. As a result I'm sort of forced to finish them one at a time. If I switch to something else I'm likely to lose momentum and interest.

I am singular. Guess it's very individual in truth!! 🙂 !!! People all being so different and so the same ! 😉

Gawd, I expected a complete pile in on this topic. And here's me as the first.

My reading is sporadic. I need to balance it with my writing. I find both constitute equal levels of engagement.

I recently keep going back to Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series. Definitely a great read, and definitely a great read if Christianity does not float your boat.
