Anecdote: My associate for many years was an expat from England. Every year on the 4th of July he would come into the office wearing a black armband in recognition of the holiday. Yes, we worked on the 4th.
One of those years he came in with a placard that read -- "Colonists Repent and the Queen will Forgive You."
