I'm finishing up S.M. Stirling's Emberverse Series "The Lord of Mountains" .......I typically find an author that I enjoy and then set about reading all his works. I'm about 60% into S.M.Sitrling's works. I enjoy his stylized view of alternative history fiction. I am a voracious reader averaging about 4 hours each day. I get so into each author and series that I read; that I sometimes think who will I find next to read. I usually do not enjoy going back to re-read anything I have already read behind me. Last year I read close to 200 books. At this pint in my life I am trying to retire early to then travel. I have the time now between my part time job and then remodeling my house. That and my many projects out in my workshop as Im a 40+ year artisan. I have enjoyed reading my entire life it started as an escape from my childhood. Ok; now that I have rambled on. Who wants to add to this diatribe ?
I started the Current installment { #10 }of the S. M. Stirling's "Emberverse series" last night. "The Given Sacrifice"........ I do seem to be gravitating towards Alternative Historical Fiction these last few months. I am sure that is the case because of my current circumstances in my daily life. I am preparing to Retire from society and Travel leading a very active Outdoor living type life. I am more than done with this world system and society in general. And these stories that I enjoy help guide me towards that future..... Ona side note I can Not understand why the price of a Digital Book are a few dollars more than an actual brand New Paperback book. Someone explain to me why this is so. Other than that our Billionaire digital Overlords can price anything at their whims as our world economy does not rely upon Demand and Supply as foundations for our economy. $9.00 for a digital book is insane imho......
Ok......since I am OCD, I am going to have to start with Book One of the Emberverse Series, "Dies The Fire". "Lord of the Mountains" is Book nine of the Series. So, if I get hooked, I will thank you. I couldn't wait to get to the book store, so I am purchasing it on my NOOK.
Thanks in advance
I don’t have OCD, but I think reading a series out of order is basically barbaric behavior.
I have hardly read anything fictional since my early thirties. In fact, recently I have hardly read anything at all, other than Private Eye, The Economist and assorted news web-sites, mainly BBC and Al-Jazeera.
Instead, I spend my time writing, mainly poetry. (Not of the pretentious, obscure words, non-scanning and non rhyming kind. That, to me, is prose.)
I am presently heavily occupied with writing a full length pantomime in rhyming couplets, for presentation by my local theatre group this December.
Do you write? That can be as addictive as reading, in my experience.
More so, in my case.
Looks tempting!! I think I'll look it up the next time I am at Barnes and Noble
