@p-nullifidian You have the 2nd amendment to protect you from an elected dictatorship. The monarchy fulfills the same function here. No ayatollah can usurp the church, no general can organize a coup as they all swear allegiance to the queen. The odd one was Bulgaria. After the fall of the USSR and their satellites. The king came back from exile and stood as president on the condition that he abdicated all rights to the throne and would only serve one term in order to help with the transition. He got elected and I asked a Bulgain guy I worked with what he was like? "Well, he was okay at 1st but then he sent too long playing playboy with King Juan Carlos in Spain. That said he was a lot better than the corrupt bastards we have had since"

It was thought that you would be more loyal to someone you had had sex with than just another comrade The trouble was that guys got too into gay sex and it became a problem for them to make babies with their wives. One trick was where the wife would dress as a young boy and get a room in the tavern. Hubby would go out drinking with his mates and then take a break. Fuck his wife doggie style then return to the table. Even those ploys grew stale though and Spartans went from a large force to an elite officer class. Eventually being beaten by the Thracians

What is brainwashing as opposed to teaching? Your time's tables, the lords' prayer, or pledge of allegiance. All mastered by rote and repartition. The ends are different but not the means. A child has no more reason to doubt their elders when it comes to God giving us our daily bread than it has to doubt 7x7=49 or one nation under God indivisible, with liberty and justice for all They simply repeat and recite until it`s in there forever. And it never stops. Advertising agencies are spending millions dreaming up new slogans. Repeat them often enough and you will buy their crap. Otherwise, why would they bother? Common prayer and hymns also reinforces the childhood model into adulthood. Sports chants are similar. The collective pushing you towards a common unity. History is littered with examples of the norm being overturned. Yet when we look back it is perplexing why people could not see it before. @gNappyHead There are groups on here and many sites inc. FB that are a-political. If a member posts something that breaches those guidelines then they will be asked to remove them or they will be deleted. Netflix is an entertainment business, however, art and politics sometimes overlap. Artists may wish to change society but it's not incumbent upon the vehicle for that art to incur possible financial losses for the artist's sake. If they did stand up to censorship? We could all applaud their stance but it would not pay the payroll. When the cartoon of Mohamed first appeared in a Danish magazine and the death threats followed. A campaign to get every western newspaper and publication to reprint the offending cartoon was organized. Had it been successful, the fundamentalist jihad would have had no specific target. Just a broad spectrum of newspaper outlets. Unfortunately, not one of our great, good, and worthy publications. from the NYT to the USA today, Guardian to the Sun stood up for the cause of a free press and put their money where their mouth is, not one. The results were what we saw in Demark and Paris. So if the Washington Post can chicken out? so can Netflix.

The half-time show was raunchy but averagely so for any pop video that can be seen on MTV or Youtube. As for the time and place argument. You are watching 22 full-grown athletic guys, slam into each other with all the force they can muster. But heaven forbid that a little sex might accompany the violence. This is the kind of hypocrisy that makes me detest the Christian moralists that infect our society. You can watch theft, murder, and war on prime time TV but don't allude to where babies come from.

@TheMiddleWay Population density (people per sq. km) in the United States was reported at 35.77 sq. You are not going to get an exact match but taken against a broad spectrum of 1st world historically western democracies. From Ireland to N.Z., the Czech Republic to Canada, all with varying population densities and incomes some higher or lower but all with a lower religious population and crime rate. Add to that the USAs religious belief has been historically much higher, it is falling now as is, funnily enough, the crime rate. Now if a religious belief was a significant positive force in social control? We would see some evidence, when in fact we see the opposite. The way I see it is if you have some 17-year-old guy and you give him a set of nearly impossible rules then he is going to fail. If stealing a car and having a wank is both wrong then he has already guilty of a gateway sin and the car is just another one. Then you have those that lose their faith. If religion was all that kept you from bad choices then without it you are morally in the wild west. To make the case for Christianity as an effective means of social control is as I have demonstrated dubious at best and fallacious at worst. It is also been philosophically condemned on both sides. Bertrand Russell said you can make the same case for Santa and it is also condemned as heresy by the Catholic church.

@Cutiebeauty, Having an alternative place to be can add something to a relationship. If you are there because you WANT to be there, not HAVE to be there, it alters the dynamics. I have a friend who is going through some relationship problems atm. And a lot of it stems from her picking a fight after he has given her all his pay. He loves her and says that she loves him but he is a musician and that clashes with her stay at home mom's life. (not his kid). He still has his own flat but owes utility bills and for him to stay there it would cost about $100 to turn the lights back on. Now I only have his side but she has been deliberately cruel and vindictive. Yet this only happens when he is too poor to leave. It reminded me of my last long term relationship. I lived with J for 15 years. For the most part, we were happy but she was a mean drunk. On a regular basis, at some point in the month, her face would contort into a scowl and with foam spitting out of her mouth she would scream at me "YOU CAN JUST FUCK OFF!". The fact that I had nowhere to fuck off to would mean that I had to ride it out. I am human too and I am not saying that I did not sometimes respond in kind but it was not pleasant. In the morning she would have no memory of the night before and we indulged in makeup sex. Fast forward to after we broke up. I went round to hers for a drink and eventually, she starts getting nasty. I just said "goodnight" and left, with her saying "You can't just leave?" The next drink was at mine and the same thing happened but this time I called her a cab. We have had loads of drunken (platonic) nights since but that was the very last time she played the mean drunk act on me again and that was 7 years ago. I cannot help but think that if I had somewhere else to be all those years. Then maybe our neighbors would not have had to listen to our rants all the time? Who knows, we might have still been together?

273kelvin replies on Jan 18, 2020:
@Kymmacg Okay sorry to be defensive there but here is my experience with online hook-ups. An attractive person (and I mean that in the round. not just looks but intelligence, personality etc.) will be able to get sex quite easily irl. Not that there no attractive women on hook-up sites but lots will tend to be after threesomes or group sex. Men will outnumber women by about 100/1 (remember this is hook-up sites not dating ones like Match or POF). So if we do simple maths then on a scale of 1-10. The top half of women (5 - 10) are going to get hundreds of mgs every day. The less attractive (1- 4) fewer but still quite a lot. This is not judgemental just logical. So an average guy (again in the round) will have to go some to even get a reply from a proverbial fox. Remember that we are talking casual sex here not deep meaningful relationships. I was on a hook-up site for about 3 years. I sent hundreds of msgs out and would only get a reply in about 10% of cases. Of that only 10% ended up in a meeting and again only 10% of those in sex. This resulted in a total of 5 hook-ups which include FWB and relationships. Of those 5, three were below or average in age/appearance and the other two were African and older men are more prized in their culture. Now bear in mind that I would not call myself a prize or "gods gift" but I did write well. This included producing erotic stories on the dating diary. So it is purely out of my own experience that I gave the advice that the poster should be prepared to lower his standards if he really wants to just get laid.

"Casual sex is an empty and meaningless experience. But as empty meaningless experiences go... it's one of the best" - Woody Allan. I have gone down that road and I do not regret it. The opportunities with online hook-up sites abound. It is something to be considered if you are not ready for a real...

@Kymmacg Whoa, all a guy has to do is mention looks and already I am some kind of a villain. If you had actually read my comment instead of seeing red after the 1st line. You may have noted that 3 of the 4 great loves of my life were not great beauties. I loved (and still do ) those women for who they were not how they looked. But I suppose that barn door is too late to close now.
I just watched the Caine Mutiny again this afternoon.

During the reign of mad king George (you know the one you guys fired). King Lear was banned from being performed in the UK. Watch out if they ban this film too.
I see so many men say nice guys get overlooked.

I will agree that looks are less important to women than men. Other factors outweigh looks, attitude and success being major players. Money is a huge turn-on for a lot of women. If I am wrong then Jerry Hall must think that Rupert Murdock has a great sense of humor. And women always seem to go for ...

@Cutiebeauty It is no surprise to me either, it is my choice. I have had my loves, partners, children, and my adventures. Sure if love came a knocking on my door again I would invite it but I am too tired to be anyone except myself now.

@VictoriaNotes It is all very well asking people what they want on a multiple-choice questionnaire but that is often a long way from what really makes the heartbeat faster. Marlon Brando on his Triumph will always be sexier than Jimmy Carter on his peanut farm. Plus there is the difference between long and short term relationships. Marlon for the weekend, Jimmy for the long haul. Don't get me wrong, I am not advocating the dark side. I am and will continue to be the best man that I can. I have just given up on watching good women go off with bad men. So I will stay home with my cat.

interesting the headline seems to offer that a 'satanic' group was involved. nothing in the article indicates either victims or perpetrators were satanic. it indicates that they "discovered an improvised church which belonged to a little-known religious sect called The New Light Of God," and ...

I think if you read it again it was the investigator that called their actions "satanic" not their beliefs.

Also, you have to ask yourself "Just how horny am I?" Are you prepared to have sex with a total stranger who may not be top of your attractiveness league? Because I have found that (trying not to be too ungallant here) a lot of women who just want sex are not anywhere close to a 10.

Wildflower comments on Jan 15, 2020:
I believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with just sex, if it is entered into with a healthy perspective. Too often psychological issues can get all wrapped up in it and make a mess of things. I would meet first, in a public place of course, without expectation of hooking up. I'd want to know ...
273kelvin replies on Jan 15, 2020:
I have to say that when I was using hook-up sites. The women I ended up with never went for the public meeting place precaution. Perhaps I have a kind or trustworthy face but they either asked me to pick them up and drive to my place or just drove here themselves. We did msg each other a lot beforehand and I suppose that if you just want a fuck then the whole "fate worse than death" thing is a bit redundant.

273kelvin comments on Jan 15, 2020:
What you are proposing is basically the same as the divine right of kings. A top-down philosophy that is useful in hierarchies like the military where unquestioning loyalty is paramount. But dangerous when applied to government. Theoretically, a divine being exists outside of human exitance. Man ...

Pure sophistry. The same kind of nonsense as we got from Ayn Rand and get now from Libertarians who use their anti-government rants as cover for innate deeply buried racial prejudice and the alleged virtue of selfishness. The next step for the Libertarians will be to declare white men (maybe ...

I don't care if you don't do sports but please watch this snooker shot.

Unbelievable. I play pool. But I don't know a thing about snooker.
273kelvin replies on Jan 15, 2020:
It is a great game and I recommend the you try it. After playing snooker, pool pockets will seem like buckets. Btw be careful if you ever encounter a British woman playing pool. The women's professional snooker circuit is not too lucrative. So many of them travel to the states and to play pool there. You might get hustled.

@Haemish1 Okay you get an alert that says someone wants to meet you. This will give you a tiny version of their profile pic. If you then go on "meet me" you can fast forward till you get the same pic. Thus will let you read their profile and or msg them
What is the craziest/weirdest religion or cult that you have come across?
ToakReon comments on Jan 13, 2020:
Well, long gone now, but Ishtar was the goddess of fertility, war, sex and sudden death - which always struck me as a bit of a whacky combination. Her temples employed girls who would offer 'Istar's Blessing' (sex) in return for religious donations - which seems a cracking way of running a ...
