Can I make a follow up point about parameters. Widening them is NOT the same as lowering your standards. For example; A lady online complained that although she lived in NYC she could not find a date. Upon hearing of her plight a very nerdy numbers type of a guy explained the problem thus. Him "Okay what are you looking for?" She " 6 foot or over, slim, blond, clean shaven, localish, non-smoker, up to 2 years younger or 5 older, income 5k -10k more than me, oh must have a ......7" or more" Him" Okay the population of NYC is 8.6 million give or take, of which 4.3 will be female so subtract them plus out of your age bracket, gays, in a relationship, too far, smokers, percentage of blonds, income, height and oh thats em... above average size so theres 54% gone. What you left with is 284-5 guys. Of which lets face it your 30 years old a few extra pounds and a 7. I am overweight, nerdy, below average height and I don`t have a big .... but I get dates. If I can and Im a 5? You can bet that those 285 can too and they are liable to be younger or better looking than you." Now as I read it back, it sounds very harsh but its not meant to be. How many brunettes or gingers? How many short fat guys or older with less income had she rejected? These could be the love of her life? She would never know.

As an ex gambler I think the really big question is this; What are you doing 5 years after you have won? After the big spurge, family and friends helped out, holidays, cars and charities done. Assuming that it has not killed you with rampant hedonism. Five years later what are you doing? Are you in a band? Have you gone back to education? Writing, painting or are you just reading a book somewhere nice? Now ask yourself this; Could I be doing that anyway? Sometimes I think your laws are very odd to say the least. In the UK the drinking age is 18 but many bars set the limit at 21.This is voluntary, as I bought my 1st beer in a bar just before my 14th birthday, this helps ensure that the bar wont be breaking the law. I was introduced to drinking by my dad. This may seem a bad thing but it went like this. We would go to a pub where he drank. I would be introduced to his friends. Everything was not only under control but a social order and dequorum was established. Nowadays it seems that order no longer exists. Binge drinking on our city streets is a major problem for both young males and females. It does seem strange that the land of the free allows you to buy a gun but not play poker online (for money). To vote but not drink at 18. In some states you can have sex at 14 but others wont let you fill your own car up with gas.

As someone who lives in a declined empire (my childhood globe was 1/3 red). I can say it starts earlier than you think. Firstly you identify the peak, which in the USAs case was the end of WW2. The US was the sole nuclear power. Alaska and Hawaii had been incorporated into the states. It had been victorious in every war it had ever fought and consumer spending was on the up. Military spending did not go down however and the US remains the only economy to burn this candle at both ends. The resultant debt is something that drains federal spending each year. After the peak, the Korean war which ended in a draw. Then Vietnam sealed Americas decline. Oh there have been high points since, the moon landings and the collapse of the soviet union but the EU took the lions share off USSR empires carcass and never again will the USA be the invincible force that it once militarily or economically was.

(sorry) Im on ebay and theres a 6 man tent, brand new, I bid £25. Then to my dismay see that it is "collection only" from Edinburgh Ahhh oh never mind theres 2 weeks left to run Im bound to be outbid. You guessed it.."only bid" Well that settled it "this is fate" says I. Fill the old Volvo 440 with petrol and point it north. We arrange to meet outside a catholic church. Took some finding after a 230 mile drive so Im a bit late and shes there, dressed all in black looking like a middle aged Mortica Addams. 10 yrs older than her profile. Takes one look at my old banger of a motor (got a better one now) and I can see she is NOT impressed. Anyway we go for a drink in town talk a bit and I ask about the church? "I am not a catholic. I am a vitch" (I did say she was Lithuanian). "I only go there to steal their pow-ver". "Oh that`s interesting "I say and about that time I realized that she had a prosthetic finger, made of silver (great looking nail on it though. Well if youve got a false finger you might as well have a great looking long nail). We do not hit it off. She makes her excuses and I walk her to her bus stop. I end up in a B & B having a great night out in Glasgow. Do a round trip to pick up said tent and chalk it up to experience. The thing is (and it dont come easy to me this, as Im a What you see is what you get" type of guy where religion etc. is concerned) What if she put a spell on me? It kinda makes sense. The thoughts, my error on ebay, it not being outbid etc. They could all be a "bring him to me spell". Which so I`m told is one of the common ones. Anyway I still have the tent, lived to tell the tale and yes I have traveled for meets since that have been fantastic. The only regret is I never got to hear about her finger.

It concerned his friendship with Britains most notorious killer Myra Hindley. I see a lot of similar posts by women of all ages. Let me clarify what I deem as the problem Broadly speaking women look for reasons to reject and men reasons to accept. To many of us guys it seems that women think its a used car lot, where you get guarantees like 1500 miles or 1 years free maintenance. In fact its more like ebay. It may look good in the picture but you dont know till you check it out. When you started dating did you say " I want a guy to be committed and lasts?" or did you say "I want a date for the prom?" Think smaller, dream bigger. How about "I want a guy I can cook a meal for and will fix my fence" or "I would like to take a trip to... a companion would be nice". You are still a good looking woman and there are lots of lonely guys out there. They may have a few dents, a lot of miles and smoke comes out of their rear but they will get you where you want to go

Our democracies are deeply flawed. We should go back to the ancient greek system where people are pulled at random to serve. Rather like jury service

Anecdotal but very personal nevertheless. My daughter and I did not have contact for about the 1st 10 -11 years of her life. Just before her 11th birthday we met for the 1st time since she was 6 months old. We now see each other quite regularly. She shares so many of my characteristics, she is stubborn, funny, slightly lazy and everyone who knows us says how alike we are. As we got to know each other it has been like the nature/nurture debate in real life. Her mum is a wonderful parent. She has been brought up in a loving home. Of course this may have been different had she had harder times but I think much of who she is is me without any input.
