So should I feel sympathy for the Manchester bomber who very nearly killed my daughters friend? How far does this extend? Serial killers, gang bangers, sadistic child murderers? The problem is that although you have ditched the theory of god. You seem to still have the christian ethics. A lordable residue you may think but let me tell you. There are reasons that nearly all christians are hypocrites. IT DOES NOT WORK . You turn the other cheek and you will get walked over. Plus you give rights and condone actions of people who should not have those rights or even tacit approval.
The judge of ethical behaviour is often "What if everybody did it?" Whilst I normally dislike hard and fast rules let us apply it here. Atm that young man is (imho rightly) condemned by society for gross stupidity and religious arrogance. So lets pretend that you win the day and we all say "Ah poor soul". There will undoubtedly be (as there probably are some now) many more who will take it further and look upon him as a martyr. Other young men and women may well seek to emulate him. After all he died doing gods work didnt he?. Just as each suicide bomber goes into the myth of legend. Each christian martyr that follows may likely do the same. What price those Indian lives then? Okay not those island people but what of the christian nutters who vandalised ancient Mayan temples in Peru? Do they deserve our sympathy or condemnation?.... No! there is a reason we condemn, because it was wrong!
Try this, post a similar youtube winge about the 9/11 hijackers and see if anyone gives you anything but abuse. Ah well thats different because they were brown skinned and the people who died were white and our people? The road to hell is paved with good intentions. So I am seeing a lady in Nantwich. Its not love. She is bright, intelligent, well read, slim, my age, likes to have sex with me but.....
She lives in Nantwich. Thats not just 1 1/4 hours drive. Thats a different world. I live in a multi-cultural, bohemian area just outside the city. I fit here! She lives in the heart of THE most richest county in England. So we are worlds apart socially. Then there is her medical problems. She had a brain aneurysm which left her with problems. She cant do 2 things at once. So if I throw a little joke into her monologue then its just noise she has to drown out. This can make conversation a challenge. She needs things ordered and I am a slob--(ish). So I will have to travel to hers all the time because the trip to Liverpool would freak her out. And yet....
I really like her company. Its not just sex, I like her. She is not THE one but ....

Accountancy is done by computers, now nearly all commodity trading is also done by machines. Why? because they do it better.
Automation is always going to encroach on the workplace. Even the Amish now use power tools to make their goods for sale then finish them off by hand. If one area or country limits machines then the work will be done elsewhere. This market forces.
We now gear our education towards work and industry requirements. In the future we may lean more towards the arts and social care.

Profile pics that are good are smiles, action shots and pics with friends. These will show that you are not some sad sack sitting alone in his room.
Profiles that work say active, adventurous, caring, passionate and GSOH (you can put a little humor in if you want). This is assuming that you have any of these qualities. If not say what you are but spin it to attract. For example Agoraphobic = like cozy nights in, overweight = cuddy. You get the idea. Also if there are things your into like bands say so. Of course if you make the effort and try and put your best foot forward. Then yes not coming over as a possible creep is a big plus. Caveman "I will not hit Ug and steal his woman because Ug will hit me back and steal mine and he is bigger than me". "I will not hit Uh and steal his woman because then he will not hunt with me and he runs fast and tracks well." Then we have a collective morality or ethics. Universal suffrage was not one persons or even one groups idea. It was a consensus of like minded people with different views but with a common aim, who got together to ilicite change. Just like Ug and Uh people saw the merits in deciding their own govt. (although the jurys still out on their current choice).
Morals and ethics change with time. Thats why you have institutions like the supreme court. It may view that abortion is unconstitutional one year. Then reverse its decision later as in Roe vs Wade. Then back again as may happen soon. (it is a little known fact that Wade herself has changed her mind and regrets her earlier decision).
Then we have the cases where there are no rules. eg. Your know friends partner is cheating. Do you tell them? You can say "I would want to know (or not)" but you are not them so the golden rule does not apply here.

Again "No desire" I merely used that part of the constitution as something that may with hindsight be wrong. There is an old joke about someone asking for directions in Ireland. "Well if I were you? I would not have started from here." If I lived in the US I probably would own a gun. I would not want to or like to but I would deem it a necessary evil. Then again I do not start from there.

The difference between prison and a death sentence is you can release an innocent person from jail and although they will never get that time back. They can be monetarily compensated and they get to live the rest of their lives in freedom. You cannot un-inject a corpse.

I think you can look at the statistics and say that counties or states that do not have the death penalty have lower or comparable murder rates

He has not been neutralised, he will spend the rest of his days there, albeit with severer restrictions. What deterrent is there to stop him killing again?

That seems to be the de facto case in the US atm. Not until all appeals and avenues of redress are exhausted will the sentence be finally carried out.

@ValJ Of course there a miscarriages of justice and no matter what safeguards we put in the way some will slip though. My understanding of US federal capital cases require 2 verdicts. A guilty one then later the same jury must decide on the death penalty. Hypothetically if that 2nd verdict could only be if it was 100% sure, no margin for error ? What then?
