You cannot uninvent something and would we want to?. I read on here how a machine now can diagnose eye disease better than any doctor. We are used to automation in manufacturing. Accountancy is done by computers, now nearly all commodity trading is also done by machines. Why? because they do it better. Automation is always going to encroach on the workplace. Even the Amish now use power tools to make their goods for sale then finish them off by hand. If one area or country limits machines then the work will be done elsewhere. This market forces. We now gear our education towards work and industry requirements. In the future we may lean more towards the arts and social care.

If a woman is sexualy active she can be labeled as a slut (see any rape defence lawyer). If she is not then she is frigid. Sex is everywhere on advertising and films. Yet making a pass someone in the workplace can get you fired. The guy has a point.

@DavidLaDeau You may know this joke already but anyway here goes. A very pious man get a warning one morning on TV that the local dam is going to burst and all that live in its path should evacuate. He thinks to himself "I am a pious man and god will save me" The warning is repeated on radio yet again he thinks "I am a pious man and god will save me". The police come to his house and tell him to get out and they will give him a lift if he needs it. He replies "I am a pious man and god will save me". The dam breaks and water is up to his bedroom window. A rescue boat cames to take him but again he says "I am a pious man and god will save me". The water reaches to the roof where he is trapped but a helicopter arrives to winch him to safety. Yet still he declines their offer saying "I am a pious man and god will save me"....He drowns. When he gets to heaven he asks god "Why did you not save me?" God says "You fucking idiot. I sent you warnings on the TV and radio. I sent a police car, a boat and a fucking helicopter! Why did you not listen?" Even the religious believe in free will. Your grandfather made choices as did that young man. If they are wrong, motivated by self interest or preservation. Then they should live with the consequences. They do not deserve our sympathy or compassion. better to save that for the more deserving.

Some mens deaths diminishes me less than others. As I type this thousands of children are starving to death in Yemen. Yet this idiot claims the news and our thoughts. Those children did not seek starvation or court disaster. They are simply there. Where was his love of god if he could spend all that time and money to go to that island and not give to them? @pashaonenine Whilst the mathematical ratio of sites such as POF and Okcupid may be relatively equal. (It becomes more slanted on sites geared to casual or sexual relationships). The perception is that women have an easier time. There are several reasons for this. Men tend to initiate contact 1st. So if there are 100 guys and 100 gals (lets say they are all within each others dating parameters of age, locality attractiveness etc.). then 98 guys will send out 98 msgs to 98 gals (the 2% are guys who wait like Wayne and gals who msg 1st). Each woman will 98 msgs, of which she will sift through and pick out her best prospects. This could range from 1-10 depending on how flirty she is. If she dates these guys the each of the top 10% will be choosing from up to 98 other dates. Then you get complaints from gals saying they get ghosted etc. As you go down the attractive scale. Then the women will still get asked but the men will get less replies. Therefore a woman can do as Wayne has done and just say "Hi I am here...ask" and some guys will ask. Whereas Wayne will grow old and bitter waiting. https://qz.com/1051462/these-statistics-show-why-its-so-hard-to-be-an-average-man-on-dating-apps/

@WayneDalton Okay firstly what Paracosm & genessa said is good advice. Profile pics that are good are smiles, action shots and pics with friends. These will show that you are not some sad sack sitting alone in his room. Profiles that work say active, adventurous, caring, passionate and GSOH (you can put a little humor in if you want). This is assuming that you have any of these qualities. If not say what you are but spin it to attract. For example Agoraphobic = like cozy nights in, overweight = cuddy. You get the idea. Also if there are things your into like bands say so. A gal who may have left swiped you might not if you like the same music and or hobbies. Messages; These are your chat up line, This is a scatter gun mail shot game. You will send out 10 msgs for every response and 10 responses to 1 date. So dont lose heart, remember that each msg gets you closer to a date. DO NOT TREAT EACH PROSPECT TO THE SAME MSG ! Yes you can put a more detailed version of your profile and copy paste this but you HAVE to read the gals profile and make it specific to them too. This is your only chance to get them interested. So "Hi lets chat" just crosses one more prospect off the list and does not make you the guy they want to talk to. Example (forgive me Minta79 I will use your profile in this). Hello Minta, you look stunning may I say. I too love lists, music, english comedians, night time, good movies , bad movies, cats and dogs (have I missed any out lol ) https://youtu.be/sqA577_IoBk (then you can copy/paste a bit more about yourself like....) I am mostly fine with my own company but would love someone to share good times with. I adore good food and wine but feel that good company would be a perfect accompaniment. If you think that you could be that persson? Then I would love to talk with you (insert name here) xxx

@pashaonenine The reasons behind womens selectiveness are to a degree somewhat irrelevant if youre waiting for them to contact you first and have no pic or bio. Of course if you make the effort and try and put your best foot forward. Then yes not coming over as a possible creep is a big plus. I simply stated the mathematical facts about radios of M - F on dating sites. If I go into a shop to buy a bottle of wine. I will per force reject a lot more wine in a large supermarket with hundreds of different choices than if I go into a convenience store with a choice of 5. It is a fact because I know women who have done it. That Waynes profile would get msgs and hits if he was female but he is not so he has to make an effort.

I cannot tell you what it is or show you a picture but you will love it when you get it. Just send me $20 and I will send it to you, interested? Of course not why would you be. Getting a date online is like looking for a job. You HAVE to have a good CV, target prospects that not only you want but those that might want you. You are NOT a better mouse trap. The world will not beat a path to your door and even if your Brad Pitt and George Clooney rolled up in Jim Morrison. They will not come unless you tell them about yourself. I get dates online. I get your point about morals from someone else. Although some are just learnt behaviour. Caveman "I will not hit Ug and steal his woman because Ug will hit me back and steal mine and he is bigger than me". "I will not hit Uh and steal his woman because then he will not hunt with me and he runs fast and tracks well." Then we have a collective morality or ethics. Universal suffrage was not one persons or even one groups idea. It was a consensus of like minded people with different views but with a common aim, who got together to ilicite change. Just like Ug and Uh people saw the merits in deciding their own govt. (although the jurys still out on their current choice). Morals and ethics change with time. Thats why you have institutions like the supreme court. It may view that abortion is unconstitutional one year. Then reverse its decision later as in Roe vs Wade. Then back again as may happen soon. (it is a little known fact that Wade herself has changed her mind and regrets her earlier decision). Then we have the cases where there are no rules. eg. Your know friends partner is cheating. Do you tell them? You can say "I would want to know (or not)" but you are not them so the golden rule does not apply here. Our morals may seem on the face of it "top down" but upon examination more a crystallization of "bottom up" thinking. The bible recommends stoning someone who wears cloths of a different weave. It is us not the bible who says that this is wrong.

@Pedrohbds The first part of your comment is almost de facto the case. Over 1% of the US population is under lock and key and felons are disenfranchised upon release. Would it not be ethically more efficient to implement a final solution? Human rights are unalienable therefore a moral rather than (in your definition) an ethical concept..As is a written constitution. If as you claim we act in our own long term interests by only adopting laws and rules that limit freedoms that will benefit us all as a whole? How do explain the abolition of slavery in the UK and empire in the 1830s? As the 1st major power to do this (a generation before the land of the free). This was not in our best interests economically, far from it. Yet moral arguments thankfully won the day. Lincoln of course had a war to win and therefore other justifications.

If someone is unemployed for a period of time, a residual offender or a drain on society by being old or infirm. Then off to the soylent green farm they go. Morally we take the view that life whilst not being sacred is precious and cannot be taken for convenience sake.

@WilliamFleming Much as I respect your view on bodies etc. It is not and cannot be the states view, in respect of separation of church and state. It makes no odds if you think a murderer will be reincarnated as an ant. The taking of a human life is the taking of a human life. To continue the tree analogy. If the lumberjack repeatedly fells trees on top of people however innocently. The state would have a duty to revoke his logging license. Just as if you were to continue to have car accidents due to errors in judgement. It would make no difference how many miles that you drove without incident. The state would curtail your right to drive. If the state kills 200 guilty people but also 3 innocent ones. Then it too must have its 00 status removed, As it no longer can be trusted with a licence to kill

Funny that you should mention that case. I listened to a radio documentary about the capital punishment debate and one of the guys on it had lost a daughter in that bombing. Now before it happened he was pro-death penalty but his daughter was not. When she killed he decided to go anti in her memory. Thinking that she would not want another life taken on her account. The victims families were split into pro and anti. With often quite vernment arguments between the two camps. The pro`s thinking that it might give them some closure. It did not. Also from what I know of the case. There are some reservations on the idea that he acted alone. If he in fact did not act alone? Then one possible line of inquiry is most certainly closed forever.

If you walk in the woods and a tree falls on you? That is for want of a better term an act of god. If that tree was cut by a lumberjack at the time? That is an act of negligence. If it was willful and easily prevented then its criminal negligence or manslaughter. If it was deliberate then its murder. If the state kills an innocent person but then says sorry but we thought that they deserved it at the time? How can it justify punishing other murderers? "Hey I only killed one guy and he was a gang banger. Youve killed 5 innocent guys in the last 2 years" The difference between prison and a death sentence is you can release an innocent person from jail and although they will never get that time back. They can be monetarily compensated and they get to live the rest of their lives in freedom. You cannot un-inject a corpse.

This is the crux of the argument. From your stance Trump has not or could not ever do right. Neither could anyone ever support any of his actions without being "the enemy". Similarly from the other side anyone who opposes Trump is also "the enemy". Both positions have a tendency towards chauvinism. Which may I say is cultivated by the 45th himself. The polarization of america is exactly what he wants. He is a sound bite terrorist who throws bombs into the crowd and then waits for the reactionists to man the barricades. With each relative entrenchment of positions his becomes more secure.

There is a big difference between someone like Nelson or Gladstone (both of which have statues in the UK that some are campaigning to be taken down) that were racist but thats not what they were famous for and someone who was only famous for fighting to keep people as slaves. You can have a statue of Wagner because of his music, whilst detesting his politics. It is another thing to have a statue of Hitler.

@Wellspring It is a very scary thing to see the collapse of a currency. I recall Alistair Cooke who was in Germany during the weimar republic. Then others would do so and eventually there would be a crowd which would lead to a riot" Zimbabwe missed a trick in stabilizing its currency. At one point the magnesium strip in the notes was worth more than its face value. People were tearing out the strips and taking them to scrap yards. So the govt. stopped putting the strips in. Had they left it alone then it might have halted the hyper-inflation? There are all kinds of safeguards surrounding paper currency, govt bonds etc.but these are dependent on a continuing ability to keep paying the interest on loans. As the US debt keeps rising, the money to service this debt will increasingly cut into the budget. Not too bad atm when interest rates are globally low but you cannot guarantee that that will continue. Then again political events may upset the apple cart. For example if Saudi had an islamic take over or if relations with China became hostile. It only takes one major creditor to call in your markers and the whole deck of cards will come crashing down. Then you will be looking at a $1,000 hamburger. Some say the real reason for the Iraq war was that Sadam insisted on Euros not petro-dollars for his oil.
A question for my American cousins.

I'm similar to you in regards to confusion in that matter. I will say that the Bible, as i recall, never specifically condemned sex. There's incest, polygamy, etc. It does say don't covet/desire your neighbors wife, and warns about having sex with another man's wife, but that is specifically all...
