I understand your situation. Maybe looking for "Mr right" is too much? Perhaps "Mr hes alright" is a better bet. The chances of finding that perfect partner are slim and slimmer as we age. We become set in our ways and develop faults that become habits. So the odds of finding that exact piece for your puzzle grow longer. Time to look for a looser fit.

Can a guy have a female best friend and sex never enter the frame?
273kelvin comments on Apr 22, 2018:
I have a female friend for over 20 years now. We only snogged once and that was because she had just been dumped for her best friend. I thought she needed an uplift in her self esteem. So I did it as a friend.
273kelvin replies on Oct 3, 2018:
@SukiSue I only kissed her because a, Like I said she needed that validation of her sexualty at that time and b, I knew that would go no further. We are friends pure and simple. She is not my only female friend. In fact I have more women friends than men. Okay one of them is gay (she is always bringing up sex). but the rest seem quite happy with just a friendship. Yes the odd innuendo may creep in but thats in the nature of good humored banter, as I othen do with my gay male friends.

@orange_girl If you feel that my comment was irrelevant then just ignore it. My point was that the post gave out the impression that women are the only victims of assault and that men do not have to take measures to prevent being attacked. This is misleading. I stated right at the start of my comment that I was in no way trying to undermine or make light of the problem. Merely that men are (as my statistical reference showed) 3 times more likely to be a victim of stranger assault. Do you think that is a privilege? There are many other threads here that address what you call the issue at hand. All I tried to point out was that we are all in this together sister. All of my life I have endeavored to treat women with respect. It would be nice if that was reciprocated.

This was true for all types of violence, with the exception of acquaintance violence which showed no significant difference and domestic violence which showed the reverse trend (0.4% of females were victims compared to 0.2% of males). The year ending March 2017 CSEW showed that:" stranger violence showed the largest difference in victimisation between men and women (1.3% compared with 0.4%) around twice as many men (1.2%) as women (0.6%) experienced violence without injury" https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/articles/thenatureofviolentcrimeinenglandandwales/yearendingmarch2017#which-groups-of-people-are-mos

@PalacinkyPDX I resent and refudiate your accusation. My comment was not meant to be all about me. It was an honest attempt to bring an understanding of what both sexes go through. Many of the prophylactic measures stated by the original post are also things that men do too.

Severing the connection between sports and patriotism. Why should it be mandatory to play the national anthem before every single game? Has anybody besides me heard that song enough for one lifetime? And, just how much does it cost to have a military fly-over at the Super Bowl?
273kelvin replies on Sep 29, 2018:
In the UK the national anthem was played at the end of each cinema show. I remember having to stand for it in the 60s. Then people stopped standing and started for the exit instead, so it was dropped. If you dont stand, sing something else or just talk over it. It will go but if you carry on it will stay, simple. The national anthem is only sung at the start of international games here.

@orange_girl Look I am not trying to lessen what women go through but statements like "I would rather have a physical assault than being raped any day." Do no one any good. !st there is no point saying my dogs bigger than yours. Especially when its untrue. Victims of rape are so often threatened with violence unless they comply so... 2nd to what degree? I know that given the choice (and its not something I would wish to choose) would I rather have my balls felt be either sex against my will or have them crushed? Is rape a fate worse than death? No one should have to be subjected to either.

It was always a stormy and passionate relationship. We were off and on more times than Kim Kardashians panties. There is a mutual connection, In fact she confessed to me that she had thought of phoning me last weekend but was unsure how I might react. The reason that she broke up with me last time was financial but she is in a more secure position now. Yes I want more of course I do but thats up to her. Yes its insane but isnt that what love is? All I know is the I am happy if she is part of my life and miserable as sin without her. I can take those arrows and slings. Just bring me some sunshine instead of black clouds

@Pedrohbds I agree, the last govt to be truly capitalist was Hong Kong before the hand over and even they could not operate without a subsidized public transport system. Perhaps the only true market forces area is now the illegal drug trade. Where price and quality control are all set by supply and demand.

273kelvin replies on Sep 13, 2018:
@Matias The American constitution was if not socialist (the term did not exist at the time) then incredibly radical and egalitarian. It divorced itself from the "evolved" old world order of hierarchy and replaced it with principals of equality. (principals that seem to be lost along the way now. When was the last time a rich white US citizen did any real jail time?) Though not all top down thinking is socialist. Socialism is most definitely "top down". I will give you two examples. When I was growing up in the 1960s, we lived in a council house. This was social housing provided by the municipality. All the front doors, gates, back and shed doors were painted either corporation red or corporation green. The same colours as the municipal buses, park benches and buss stops. No deviation was permitted, any infringement could result in eviction. A drab look but not as absurd as my friends experience. She grew up in East Germany, when the wall came down she finally got to read " Winnie the pooh" in its uncensored form. The character of Tigger had been airbrushed because he was deemed to be too subversive. Socialism and religion do have one thing in common. They both involve some guy above you thinking they know better you how to live your life.

273kelvin replies on Sep 13, 2018:
These "distortions" are necessary. Capitalism unchecked will wreak havoc. It is cyclical and has no morals. The depression of the 1930s was like a plague and any govt that would not wish to combat that would be akin to not wanting to combat a typhus epidemic. Just as we (in the 1st world) have waste water systems that prevent cholera instigated and maintained by the state. So we have "socialist" systems in place to promote growth and limit the damage of a totally free market. Best described by a joke; A vicar is walking past an old gardener working in a most beautiful garden and says to him. "Isnt god wonderful? Just look what he can make" The old man smiles and replies. "Yeah but he is one hell of a messy bastard if you just leave him to it"

Realistically, were there no genuine guys out there in all the months they have been on? Or did they reject them early?

Is it time for us to be a political force?
Dandewine comments on Sep 11, 2018:
I think it is the time to be a political force and I don't care if you are on my side or not... but SO MANY LIBERALS (which is me) JUST DON'T VOTE and it pisses me off. You feel you are fighting a losing battle... OK... fight it. Maybe we can surprise them!
273kelvin replies on Sep 12, 2018:
I must admit to being guilty of that myself. I did not vote for nearly a decade. In mitigation, I was off the grid for a long time and I lived in the safest Labor seat in the country then moved to the 2nd safest. (Our electoral system is 1st past the post and any other votes dont count). I changed my mind when my daughter turned 18 and could not be bothered to vote either. Interestingly voting numbers have shot up since we had a radical candidate. Jeremy Corbyn is an unrepentant leftie and the turnout at the last election was nearly 70%, the highest for 25 years. Although he did not win, he did come close and made it hard for the Conservatives govern with a free hand. Trump for all his faults may galvanize people into the voting booths. Love him or hate him (I am of the latter) its hard not to have an opinion.
Did you know?
