Are positive illusions a necessary condition for being happy?
Amisja comments on Oct 16, 2018:
You have maybe 80 years and become increasingly more disabled, you will work hard for many of those jobs will be thankless and will endure heartache, loss and anguish. Apart from a few small numbers of us, we will never get rich and even for those who do, we discover it does not make you happy. People worship things and other people rather than focussing on love and kindness. The world is full of pain and suffering, people are often unkind. If we saw the world how it trully is we would never get out of bed. In fact we work together for a Utopian tomorrow knowing we may not even see it in our own lives. I am prepared for that because overall life does get better and will improve. I'm not working 16hr shifts in a cotton mill like my great grandma from age 12 years. This is what we owe to our ancestors and that is the love and hope they gave us.

Line dry or mechanical?
Amisja comments on Oct 15, 2018:
You know years ago, I used to chat on a political website in USA. It started because I lived there at the time and as a working class British lass I could not understand why anyone would dry clothes in dryers. I mentioned that I had been instructed by the appt complex owners, that line drying was not permitted. I asked my father-in-law who said (quoting) "Yes because people will think you are a poor Mexican"! I was horrified. He was an academic and certainly left leaning politically. What followed was the BIGGEST political debate of my life. From climate change to racism, to knowledge economy to American values and beyond...all starting from a discussion about line drying. Sunshine (if you have it) is free, why wouldn't you use it. I live back in NW England, known for grey rainy weather and I still mostly line dry where I can. If not I dry clothes indoors on a 'maiden'.

Amisja comments on Oct 15, 2018:
I am a life long Labour supporter and I support Corbyn. The problem was never antisemetism but Labour's pro Palestine stance. Unfortunately that became anti-semetic in the eyes of many of the Jewish left. I strongly believe (having been married to a Jewish man for over 20 years) that you can support Jewish identity and Palestinians right to live peaceably. Isreal is not everything Jewish in the world. Its all a big mess but the Palestinians have a right to life too. We on the left are supporters of equality and freedom for all.

I have read and watched lots of stuff on this and I believe there is no earthly reason anyone would create this convoluted event just to justify going to war. It just doesn't make any sense. I do believe there was probably prior knowledge of a threat and the failings, if any, were not taking those threats seriously enough.

Amisja comments on Oct 14, 2018:
I think that is interesting because ultimately you would be in control of your own end. I am not sure. I am curious enough to want to see the future but I am not sure I could endure the pain of seeing my loved ones die. I can't even bring myself to think about it. If I could live basically as well as I do now then yes. Another consideration is how would I afford it? I have worked out that with the pension pots I have, I have enough money for 20 years after I retire. There are too many varibles to consider. So lets say I'll stick with my 3 score years and 10!

I am interested in what you have to say but your posts are too long. I would say though, time didn't exist until we invented it. Consequently the earth had infinity to evolve and to perfect beings that were fit for purpose. I see it as a work in progress but human beings are definitely not there yet. The upright vertabrae for example, needs work. Fails for many of us. We are prone to making unhealthy choices and still far too susceptable to illness.

I believe people tend to fall in love with ideas, the perfect marriage, the happy family, the dream job etc...reality is rarely that straightforward. I think in the future AI will likely become so realistic that indeed relationships will form (one sided). They can't be reciprocated unless we imbibe the AI with human emotions...then are they even AI?

Should children be placed back in homes where they were once abused?
Amisja comments on Oct 13, 2018:
I have cared for lots and lots of parents who take drugs. Drugs don't necessarily make people into bad parents. Hitting or neglecting or otherwise abusing a child should always mean you lose the right to be a parent.

Amisja comments on Oct 13, 2018:
My sister is mixed (Same Mum different Dads) she babysat my three a lot. They have stayed at hers and I never ever thought about it once. Her boys have stayed here a few times and youngest is very popular with the local kids as he is an excellent footie player. The idea seems so incredibly alien to me. I just cannot relate to it at all. It makes me feel angry that anyone would question such a fine young man. There are lots of racists here in UK and the police have done a lot of investigations into institutionalised racism within themselves as an organisation. I understand what you said about the different movements which in their own ways are challenging inequality, racism and sexual abuse. There are similarities between the movements intended aims and some differences. I absolutely agree with your assertion that the fight for female sufferage did not include women of colour or (in this country especially), working class women. The thing is they are an evolutionary step in the right direction. The civil rights movement in USA, allowed other groups to talk about and eventually demand equality (women, LGBT people, disabled people etc). If we believe in human rights we have to accept human rights for all, we have to keep demanding it.
So I just noticed one of the "like" options is a hug.

Near Death Experiences
Amisja comments on Oct 13, 2018:
The mind is a powerful thing. I have been 'visited' by my grandpa, great grandma and My Mum after they passed. After my beautiful friend, Linzi died, I felt her presence every day for ages. It was weird. Longing and grief can cause these feelings. There are some interesting scientific articles about near death experiences. I suspect its the way our brain protects us as we leave this life. If we are lucky to be revived we get to tell the story. For my colleague, Carl who was dead for 30 mins whilst we worked on him, he had nothing. No memory of anything until he came round in the ambulance.
Share your most cringe worthy interaction with a believer.

Thoughts on Brexit?
Amisja comments on Oct 13, 2018:
I believe about half of 30% of the UK voted to leave the EU based on a set of lies. They believed that UK would return to a white chocolate box lid image of rolling hills, thatched cottages and no brown people. They believed that £350 million a day would return to the NHS. They believed they could return to imperial weights (I am 52 and anyone younger than me was never taught imperial measurements). They did not understand the intracies of undoing 40 years of impossible strong ties with the biggest trading area on earth. I have heard it likened to removing all the ingredients in a cake and returning them to their original state. Its going to be impossible. Its going to cause untold damage to the UK and to our Irish brothers and sisters. We didn't get the facts, its a ridiculous idea and we need a second vote.
Seven deadly sins.

This is not accurate. This was never debated in British schools. I am sure Eisenhower said what is quoted but the issue about UK schools is incorrect. In addition, I don't know one Muslim who rejects that the holocaust happened.
