When we all fill out our profile, and the question, married, divorced, single, you know what I mean.
Amisja comments on Jun 2, 2018:
I put 'I'd rather not say' because I was at the time still married to someone who broke my heart. I am with someone else in the broad sense of the word but not in a romantic going places sort of way.

Amisja comments on May 28, 2018:
Weirdly, I used to have a reoccuring dream that I was a stigmatic until about the age of 14 yrs. Its weird because thats a freaky thing for a young kid to dream about but also because I was broadly brought up in CofE (although my family are not religious)...as in low Church anglican. So where the hell my weird kid little mind got that idea from I'll never know. My Grandpa said he always thought I was the second coming but he did have a rather ridiculously high opinion of me ;)

He filmed a court hearing. Filming in court is illegal, has always been illegal. This guy (who changed his name in prison from Stephen Yaksley lennon) is known racist and right wing mouth piece. He heads the EDL which are a notorious racist anti Islamic group of thugs basically. They are widely discreditted and have nothing of value to bring to British life. The UK is a modern diverse nation. His type are not welcome.

The meaning of life????
Amisja comments on May 26, 2018:
You don't need meaning. You have golden mornings and natural renewal. You have the cycles of nature. Spring flowers, and newborn lambs. You have the glory of summer when nature turns out in full bloom. Then the hope of a full harvest. Comforts in winter, warm homes and comfy nights around the TV. You have each new human life and the possibility that this one has the answers. You have the beauty and brains of each young person as they grown into adulthood, their energies and their endeavours. The jigsaw piece importance of each one of us. Young have the wisdom of the elders who can pass on stories of the past. The ones who had the answers if we are only prepared to listen and after their human life has ended, their vital energy remains. Atoms and molecules never die. This is eternity and you have that too.
How do we end misogyny?
Amisja comments on May 26, 2018:
Educating young girls.Elevate the social position of female doctors, law givers educators, scientists, writers and thinkers. Provide free and abundant healthcare and contraception. Encourage boys to experience the full range of human emotions and allow adults to explore sexuality freely, safely and without stigma.
Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

Amisja comments on May 25, 2018:
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1297273/ This is a film about a guy called Steve Howarth from Arizona. He invented some of the extreme piercing techniques. In the film his wife talks about what they do and who they are. She said that (paraphrasing) a small number of people become the ideal, they can sing, or are good sportspeople, or are beautiful or are rich and that everyone else tries to aspire to them. She said there were a small number of people who just walk away from that aspiration and are completely individual. Its cool to be those people. I am too

Amisja comments on May 24, 2018:
As a lecturer my advice is this. Timetable your studies, 2hrs a night. Always have a break between studying. Make notes, read through classroom materials, check your textbooks and watch some videos. I love the khan academic videos for medication interactions. The other good advice is...eat well, sleep well, drink plenty of water and always have one day off to chill and do fun things, or veg and do nothing. Good luck xx
What's the one thing that should be taught in high school that isn't?
Amisja comments on May 24, 2018:
Chopping wood, making fires, skinning a rabbit, catching fish, growing veg, cooking that does not involve packets, building benders, clay ovens, signs of wildlife, herbal medicine and foraging. Knitting, sewing, crochetting, tating, button making, leather and woodworking. Proud to say my three could have a good go at all of these.

Amisja comments on May 23, 2018:
I am going to add something here about forced marriage. Forced marriage is a cultural phenomena that is definitely experienced by young people in Islam. Again this is poorly understood but mostly it is a societal method to provide fast track to residency to Western Countries. It again, like intermarriage, is rarely seen in majority Muslim countries. Arranged marriage yes, but a generation or two ago arranged marriage was still common in EU and is STILL apparent in certain classes of Europeans (think Royals). In fact arranged marriages have a lot of benefits if both parties agree. I think marrying for something as flimsy as love is a bad idea anyway. Forced marriage is illegal in the UK. But of the 4 cases I have personnally been involved with two were young Muslim women, one was a gay jewish woman being forced into marriage with a man and one was a Jo Wit.
The practice of islam is in violation of all the human rights liberals are supposed to believe in: ...
Amisja comments on May 23, 2018:
Ok here goes. There are NO Islamic countries. There are countries where Islam is the most common religion but none are state dictated. Much of what you see as 'Islamic extremism' is CULTURAL. Wearing veils in whatever guise is entirely cultural. Some of the Eastern European countries which have a majority muslim population are fairly secular, Kazakhstan for example, wear the veil is no more than a headscarf. In the West women are not general forced to wear the Niqab, it is a choice. This choice stems from the notion of female purity and social status, rather than social control. Islam and the Q'ran are not inherently violent or oppressesive and although I respect Mr. Hitchen's work in this he is wrong. Look at India for example. India is going through HUGE social change, think 1960s USA. For the first time gay rights are being discussed, women's rights etc. Right amongst the majority Hindi and Christian populations are a sizeable Muslim population. They are fairly secular, educated and pragmatic. Here in UK, especially where I live in the North West , we have a muslim population of about 13%. The local mosque is a huge contributor to local charities, regularly feed the poor and open their doors to the local community. Of course there are extremists and I am willing to debate the reason for this at length. Of course we are seeing a 'snapback' to fundamentalist ideas across all three religions. There is just less taste for the ideas of fundamentalism in Christianity as (and I agree) Western Christians have cherry picked out the good bits. But be aware, it is there. Especially across USA but increasingly in Australia and some parts of EU. In Judaism it is STILL very apparent. There are Jewish communities in Europe that are basically completely closed to the authorities, where lack of education and abuse is rife. I live and work amongst and with Muslims, I have my entire life. I have very good friends who are Muslim and have positively contributed to my life and world view. I work with Muslim academics, none of who wear anything like a veil. This is an extremely complex situation and it is not as easy as saying 'Islam bad..rest of us ok'. A year yesterday a young man set off a bomb at the Manchester Arena killing 22 mostly young people. Muslims ran into help, muslim brothers and sisters worked at everyone of the hospitals supporting that night's events (including the one where I work sometimes), the British Council of Mosques were the first to decry the violence. The thing is this violence is just that violence perpetrated by mostly very young, disenfranchised men who believe a scewed and twisted version of the message the original teachers gave. Educating young people, allowing people to openly pursue their faith and for us all to keep ...
