I was born in Colorado but grew up in southern California, (Eagle Rock and Imperial). After high school graduation I joined the US Navy where I spent 4 years as a Hospital Corpsman. Upon completing my enlistment I attended San Diego State University and obtained a BS degree. A short marriage during this time resulted in a son. After graduation I was employed as a Social Worker in Imperial County. I remarried, (a marriage that lasted 43+ years until she was taken by cancer in 2015), and we both brought 1 son to the family. We moved to Eureka in 1974 and lived there for 10 years and added a daughter to our family. I continued to work as a Social Worker while there. In 1984 we moved to Redding where I continue to reside
While employed as a Social Worker/Supervisor in Shasta County I completed an MPA degree at Cal State Chico. After completing the graduate degree I took an administrative position with Head Start and as an adjunct instructor at the local community college. I have been retired for several years and a widower for about 4 years. I have been active on the boards of several NPOs and as a volunteer for community service organizations. I travel to the mid-west, where 2 of my children currently reside, once or twice a year.
