I wasn’t raised with religion and didn’t realize other people went to church every week. I was about 11 when I asked why we didn't go to church. My mother said something about “people gathering in a building....” I was never on the fence about , even without the toxicity of organized religion. I have never understood how people bought into such nonsense until it occurred to me that the social aspect and sense of community and inclusion was a draw for a lot of people. I think that was what kept me away. I’ve never been a joiner, especially when it was required that I fit someone else’s mold.
