@St-Sinner we lost over 2,500 Americans and who knows how many allies during the 20 year morass. The fact that we only lost 13 in the close out is pretty amazing considering the number of people we were trying to evacuate in a secure fashion. Newspapers are hardly a window into history, otherwise Hitler never would have made it into office. There was never going to be a clean exist and all Trump did was legitimize the Taliban by having their leaders and best fighters released from prison. Perhaps another hundred dead Americans allies would have satisfied your blood lust? And I suppose these don’t count to you since it happened during Trump’s term: https://marketrealist.com/p/how-many-troops-died-in-afghanistan-under-trump/

Some have trouble throwing stuff away. I have collected Playboy, Penthouse magazines since 1970, other assorted men's magazines over the same period of time. I have first editions, foreign editions, limited editions of many brands. While I don't consider any of them porn as such, i'm sure others might label them as such and be quite willing to "dispose" of them. I'm guessing many if not the entire collection are worth something and hope my religiously oriented son tries to sell them when I'm gone rather than put them in a bonfire. But to me they represent history, fashion trends, lifestyles and in the case of Playboy, great literary works. I can't speak for this kid, but maybe his collection was of similar material which his parents four objectionable and just classified as porn. As for the toys and stuff, as long as he didn't let them laying around in the family bathroom or living space, what harm are they?

Or put pools in their back yards. Lancaster actually built a pool specifically for people of color on the east side of town, far enough out to make it inconvenient to get to. It's actually one of the few older public pools still around. Or they had to swim in the Conestoga River, which at the time before sewage treatment plants, was pretty toxic.

This was after the war, to prevent returning black service members from using the GI bill to buy good housing. Just to show discrimination was not limited to blacks, the largest country clubs didn’t allow Jews to join until well into the 1980’s. And blacks were banned from public swimming pools until the late 1960’s or ‘70.

Barnie2years replies on Jun 30, 2021:
@barjoe that is one of the major problems with EVs. City dwellers who would benefit the most from electric vehicles (reduced pollution, savings on fuel). Are the least likely to get them due to not having access to charging. Few have off street parking. And those who do would have to worry about vandalism. A system of rental stations might be workable (like the bike stations), though they come with their own set of problems. Infrastructure for charging is the biggest problem overall with electric. Hershey Park and several other public places I have been lately are starting to install pay chargers in their lots. But they are few and far between. And if you consider how many people run out of gas on a daily basis, the EV owner won’t be able to carry around an empty gallon container to take to the nearest gas station!

@Heavykevy1985 easy! If it is illegal for me, it’s illegal for you, regardless of what kooky religion you belong to. If you religion dictates that your child be pierced or tattooed, not allowed. As an adult, if you want to tattoo your entire body and have nails sticking into every part of your body,(legal) knock yourself out! If your religious belief involves cutting appendages off (illegal) then you can’t use your belief to cover your sadism. Pretty simple really. Child labor and child marriage is illegal for a reason. Your demented religious interpretation has no justification for mistreating your children. Or any other illegal activities.

@Heavykevy1985 where do you draw the line? If my religion condones child marriages, wife beating, female circumcising, body mutilation, witch drowning, or any of a multitude of illegal activities, they should be protected from government interference? We already do this in many states, by removing Amish from education laws and extremely lax enforcements of child labor laws. So why not apply that to all religious beliefs, as long as they are not forcing non believers to do it?

Back in the innocent 1900 it was simple hijackings. A free trip to Cuba or some other third world country and few people got hurt. After 9/11 the stakes changed when hijackers decided to use planes as weapons. Passengers have become the best weapon to subdue the crazies and flight decks have been reinforced making it much harder to commandeer the planes. And bad behavior in the air is just mimicking the horrible behavior on the ground. Plus, with everyone having a video camera in their pocket and news outlets happy to shell out cash for video, what would have been a short column in the newspaper is now headlines on every news program. This tends to create copycats looking to make a statement.

Barnie2years replies on May 28, 2021:
@barjoe if I understand the system, she has to be cognizant enough to understand the charges against her. So once she is institutionalized she can not be released until such time as she is deemed able to understand the charges and stand trial for the crime. My understanding anyway. But I am with you on the death penalty. If you are killing people for no reason, you are insane because normal people don’t commit wanton murder. Psychology is an extremely inexact science to say the least, so getting someone to say you’re crazy is not that complicated if you can afford it. That should in no way make you eligible to get out of the crime you committed. If anything, it should be presented as a reason for the person to never get out! Look at the guy that killed the 8 people in San Jose this week. He had been arrested several times, his partner had filed charges against him for battery, he was a time bomb waiting for a match. Had he not shot himself (I love when they do that, if only they didn’t have to take innocent people with them!) he would also be found criminally insane and spent who knows how many years in some expensive institution. It is a f***ked up system.

Barnie2years replies on May 21, 2021:
@TimeOutForMe what we call the Middle East has been at war with itself and conquered by foreign countries since the beginning of time. Sadly, it will probably continue until the end of time. Eras of peace are generally short lived and just a time for rebuilding armies. It is not really a religious thing so much as a tribal thing. Africa, Asia and the Middle East were often under outside country control, from Romans to British, who arbitrarily drew borders which did not always reflect those tribes. This just made a bad situation worse. But that does not excuse the constant warfare, reoccurring genocides and hate that keep going from generation to generation.
