I've recently moved in with a really great guy that I met here, but I still enjoy talking with all kinds of people. & somehow I became a host of a sewing group here even though my sewing skills are very rudimentary & undisciplined.

I like plants, animals, chocolate, science & humor.

Hello Elaine, from another fish out of water--I moved to Mississippi in November. From CA no less---MAJOR culture shock!
How many people here like crawfish or crawdads depending on how you say it?
Carin comments on Mar 20, 2019:
I love seeing them in the ditches, creeks & rivers. Some have red on them & remind me of little lobsters. Others have blue on them. I don't want to eat them but wonder if they'd do OK as pets. I don't like spicy foods that hurt my mouth.

Finding a partner who shares the same hobbies is a challenge, to say the least.
Carin comments on Mar 19, 2019:
I've never had that experience but I would really like to...well except for hiking. I guess that's a hobby, & my last couple guys had bad knees, which was disappointing--more so for them, I'm sure.
Wishing everyone out there a happy St Patty's Day.??

How do u fight back depression? Depression attack me again? :-(
Carin comments on Mar 18, 2019:
I'm glad you are asking for help! Depression is a crippling disease & like other sicknesses, often you can't get better on your own. If none of the suggestions here seem to help or you are unable to put them into practice because you feel so terrible, there are many different kinds of professionals that can help. You may or may not want to take medicine. Either choice is OK if it feels right to you. People who tell you to get better only without medicine are ignorant on the subject. But talking to some kind of counselor is usually helpful whether or not you take medicine too. If you don't find the right person to talk to or the best medicine for you right away, don't give up. Look for a new counselor or tell the doctor you don't think a medication is helping.

Has profanity become the normal way to communicate?
Carin comments on Mar 18, 2019:
I was always taught that using a lot of profanity was a sign of a poor vocabulary & probably low intelligence. I'm seriously having trouble believing recent scientific studies saying that people who swear are actually smarter & more honest than those who don't. I still wouldn't want to be around them anyway.
It's the same thing, isn't it? ?

Carin comments on Mar 16, 2019:
Perfect! I love to see a stranger's face light up when I tell her I love her colors, or her sweater looks so comfy & pretty. Someone doesn't need to be dressed up for us to notice something special. & no reason we can't compliment a guy on his shoes or shirt or something either. But the day I casually complimented a store clerk on his masculine choice of nail polish color, I realized I was officially a naturalized Californian.
Changes in diet may have led to changes in speech.
Carin comments on Mar 16, 2019:
One of my areas of expertise is human lactation. Shorter duration of breastfeeding, only possible in agricultural societies where non-human milk & softer foods were available for infants, would have quickly changed oral development in similar ways. Studies have shown that failure to breastfeed results in higher rates of speech problems, while another study showed that breastfeeding till age 3 (which would have been at the low end of breastfeeding duration in pre-agricultural times) reduces the need for future orthodontia by over 70%! I've seen no information on breastfeeding & wisdom teeth problems, but the data is clearly showing that active breastfeeding rather than passive bottle feeding, which requires no jaw movement, promotes more normal oral development. Thanks for sharing this article!

Good Morning all. What do you think of this tree and its message?
Carin comments on Mar 16, 2019:
It made me wonder why tropical trees have buttress roots & roots coming down from branches...stability in thin tropical soils? Trying to absorb more nutrients? Spreading out to monopolize more canopy area & sunlight? Maybe someone here knows. Nice picture. In Hawai'i it would stink like Mynah birds though....

Most know this as PI day it just also so happens to Albert Einstein birthday.
Carin comments on Mar 14, 2019:
My silly Pi Day story: Somehow I made it to my forties never having heard of Pi Day (I'm totally math phobic) until my daughter said tomorrow was Pie Day at school, & they were supposed to bring pies to cut up & share. As a hopeless wanna-be supermom type, I set to making a home made pie that would be bigger than any of the other kids' pies. My lasagna pan was the biggest baking dish I had....& my poor daughter brought a rectangular (though huge, delicious, & made entirely from scratch) apple pie to school to celebrate "Pie" day.....

No need to starve--just poke a tiny hole in the lid to get rid of the vacuum holding it on. You can put a little tape over the hole if you aren't going to use it all up. Does age matter in a relationship?
Carin comments on Mar 8, 2019:
If you are both fine with it that's what matters. I'm 10 years older than my boyfriend & I don't really think about our age difference much until someone mentions it, which is, unfortunately, rather often as he looks about 10 years younger than he really is. People think I must be his rich sugar mamma when in fact we are both pretty broke!

So, I turned 25 recently and it just hit me that I'm 5 years away from being 30.
Carin comments on Mar 6, 2019:
Only if you plan to die at 50... Seriously, 30 might be the worst--you still feel young so it's harder to accept those big numbers. As you get older it's less of a big deal. Though I'll be 60 in 3 years, ugh--that feels like practically dead! Where do the years go once you get older? Childhood seemed to last FOREVER, time seemed barely to move. I can't remember now when it sped up--after 20 for sure... How fast do years seem to be going by for you?
