If we made decent money we could afford the good union made american stuff, & it would probably be better quality & last longer. It seems like a downward spiral, where we make less & less money & are forced to buy cheaper junk, then more good paying US jobs are lost because we can't afford to buy the products.

One of the organization directors in Malawi said that a church group could carry my donations over there for free. It really was a tough decision. I could buy so many more sewing supplies with the 100s of dollars it would save me, & so many more girls could get things they really needed. But a bunch of christians would get credit for all my hard work! Still not sure if it was selfish of me to refuse the offer. Another factor was that I like to be in personal contact with the people who give the items to the girls. What do you think?

@zorialoki A very good question would be if the ban only applies to plastic straws. I believe I read that it does. Not sure if you are old enough to remember using paper straws, but they were bad! They tended to fall apart before your drink was done. Now in the REALLY old days, almost so long ago that I barely remember them, some places used straws actually made from straw, or pieces of reeds. I recall the reed ones worked fine but were narrower so you got 2 of them. I guess that was the 1960s in Europe & they were very uncommon by then. My mom remembered when they were ubiquitous though.

They will have free counseling too. You will probably be limited in how long you can stay, but hopefully they can help you get a plan in place. @Jacar That has never been my experience, & although abuse counselors say they almost never will stop being abusive in a relationship (since it works so well for them) they can sometimes start a new relationship & not start abusing that person. At least not physically. That has also been my experience with one guy.

Yeah, when you get to be our age, a lot of people do have kids. But not all. If you aren't good with kids then you should certainly not get involved with anyone who has minor children. Kids can drive you nuts even when you do like them! So don't feel bad about saying that.

Abusers will never change. I truly think they are unable to. Any domestic violence counselor will tell you there's almost no hope.

@misplaced 12 step programs are a good way to meet quality people. Does NA have a phone line like AA does, where you can call & see if someone can drive you to a meeting or come talk to you?
