@puff 730 reports, likely most of which are completely unrelated given the recent study showing 2/3 of all reactions were placebo related, divided by the 93% of your 25.69 million is three thousandths of one percent, even if they were all real. So yeah, pretty unlikely, especially weeks after the vaccination.

@Petter The lack of choice doesn't really have anything to do with the legality of the behavior. Being attracted to children isn't a choice, but that doesn't mean anyone should legalize kid-fucking. On a separate line of thinking, however, it's hard to justify the legality of skinning animals alive and the illegality of fucking a sheep. That's not to say they should both be legal, just pointing out how those things coexisting doesn't make much sense.

An influenza vaccine * could * reduce strain on the healthcare industry, which, during a global pandemic, could save immeasurable amounts of resources and lives. I would not say that has nothing to do with covid. 4. As I have already mentioned several times, there are clear benefits to the shot that would result in social, medical, and financial good. The fact that you continue to pretend like that isn't the case speaks volumes about you and clearly shows everyone why you'd get lumped in with the flat Earthers, anti-vaxxers, etc. So are you saying that even in the case of ebola, you don't think the government should be allowed to force vaccination (if it existed) or quarantine without freely given consent?

@puff 1. It's not removing consent. You are still free to say no. 2. We agree on principle that there are circumstances it's reasonable to remove consent or even forcibly detain. We just disagree on the line where it can be done. 3. Your country has had an infinitely better response and outcome as a result of the measures employed by your government. It's a shame that you can't understand how beneficial that is to all citizens because you're so self-centered all you care about is if you had to do something you didn't want to do. Boo-hoo. Which, I might add, is ridiculous. You were willing to get a flu shot to go to a nursing home, but you wouldn't get the covid shot simply to do your part to reduce the overall negative impact of a deadly global pandemic on your country and its citizens. Real nice. Furthermore, your country may not be as wealthy as mine, and maybe they * had * to employ stricter rules in order for it to not go bankrupt. That sucks for you as well, but life is terrible and unfair. Bottom line: if you want the advantages of living in a society, you have to participate and do your part. Your mad they can threaten you livelihood if you don't get your shot, well, having the job and making money to buy the things you want is part of that society. 4. The medicine is worth it. You're just too blinded by your echo chamber and too myopic to see how and why.

@puff It * ALSO * states that 1 person was in their 40s, 1 in 50s, 6 in 80s, and 2 in 90s. It conveniently leaves out is the unvaccinated person was the youngest of the ten or not. It also given zero data regarding comorbidities or speak to the fact that 93% of people over 16 are at least double vaccinated, so with only 10 deaths in one day in the entire country it's 1. a really grate statistic for the value of vaccinations 2. drastically skews the data to make it look like vaccinations are bad. To put your faulty numbers in perspective. 10 deaths in a day in a country with 25 million people is less than 4 deaths per 100k, in the US yesterday we had 3866 deaths in a country with 332 million which is over 116 deaths per 100k. Our death rate is over 30 times higher than yours. The US only has 63% of the population that is double vaccinated. Are you seriously that poor at evaluating numbers and data? You can't do a very simple comparative analysis or try to figure out possible other causes and effects of things? Do you just believe whatever nonsense people who you already agreed with tell you? You had ten people die in a country of 25 million and you think you can draw meaningful conclusions from that WITH NO OTHER DATA? Dude what the fuck? That's so sad you're that easy to fool. Ashtabula county near me has less than 100k people and they had 20 people die of covid yesterday. I know you're not good at math, so to be clear that's TWICE as many as in your whole country of over 25 MILLION people. I'll give you one guess why your death toll is so small compared to ours.

@puff 1. Citing reasons that don't happen to be the most important reasons to do something doesn't invalidate it being a good idea. If I said people should save 20% of their paychecks incase there was a really big sale on cotton candy and they'd want to have liquid funds available if it came to pass, it may be the wrong reason to save money, but that doesn't mean saving money is a bad idea or that if people started saving money for that reason and realized it was dumb that they should just blow all the money they saved even though there are actual good reasons to save money. 2. Many people can state many reasons for doing something. By your rationale, if we can point to one that's not the best reason to do something, that should be sufficient reason not to have to do it? 3. Science is all about testing and learning and changing what we believe based on the best available evidence. If they originally cited one reason, and it turned out not to be the best reason, wouldn't you be glad they were willing to amend it as needed? If they didn't, we'd be back to the realm of the religious who believe the same thing on Wednesday that they did on Monday, no matter what happened on Tuesday.

@puff Yes, fair point that it's not ebola, but we do agree in principle that the governing body should be granted certain powers to restrict freedoms to protect its own interests and the interests of its people. And let us also look at some statistics that may speak to how well our policies did for each group of citizenry. US has had 2,657 out of every million people die, you've only had 118. We've also had between 2.5-3 times as many cases per million people as well. I don't even know how to begin to assess the differences in the economic impact between our countries as a result of the differences in how we handled it. I know it sucks there. I've heard from a number of people. But the benefits of the restrictions show. As for authoritarian governments, don't you worry, we'll be living under one very soon. ChestRockfield replies on Jan 22, 2022:
@puff I disagree. A mandate doesn't remove consent. It isn't forced vaccination. Any reasonable person could understand the principle of a vaccine mandate given the appropriate conditions though. If the pandemic was caused be an aerodolized ebola, with the same scenario (the shot wouldn't prevent transmission, but it would prevent death >90% of cases, decrease the likelihood of someone you gave it to dying, and reduce the likelihood it would mutate and keep the pandemic going longer) but contraction without the shot is almost certain spread of the disease and death. Do you really think people with ebola should be allowed to walk around and participate in society? Of course not. So we agree in principle, we just disagree on where to draw the line.

@BD66 In not a legal scholar or tax whiz by any stretch of the imagination, so I'm just spitballing here. What if we were to force the payment of income tax on foreign goods when they're imported? That way, a company would have a disincentive to move overseas. Furthermore, to reduce the risk of companies that have a patent or one-of-a-kind item that they could force Americans to fork over the extra funds for, no copyright, trademark, or other IP protections would be afforded to companies that are no longer American. If you move your company to China to get cheap labor and low corporate tax, American companies would be free to produce their own versions of your product at will to undercut you and earn profits for America. I also think we should eliminate all deductions of any kind and use all that money to lower all tax rates for everyone equally, not shitty loopholes that only some can take advantage to completely eliminate their tax liability. A company like Amazon shouldn't be able to pay zero percent tax. I'm sure there's a million more things people a lot smarter than me could figure out. I know it's possible, but the corporations are giving the politicians billions of dollars to keep things favorable for them.

@TheMiddleWay Isn't that like a cop asking you if there were any crimes you've gotten away with so far? Why would people admit that they changed their ways so that they wouldn't get ridiculed, letting people know that's the only reason they were doing the right thing? Let's ask the reverse question. Is there anyone who refused the vaccine only because people were getting shamed for not taking it? If not, then at minimum, shaming doesn't * hurt, * so I have no reason not to try it since I know it * could * work...

@TheMiddleWay You're missing the part where the fear of shame can have an effect (which I already mentioned). There were a couple people here that were privately questioning whether or not to get the covid vaccine, but when one nurse publicly stated that she wasn't going to take it and tons of people shamed her, the others stopped questioning and got scheduled for the shot. Yes, it's anecdotal, but I know for a fact that it works. Even if only on one person, that's one more person who is vaccinated and one less person that isn't. All for zero cost by my estimation. I have no problem making fun people who are causing tons of harm.

This seems to be a problem suffered by those that think 'blood is thicker than water' which I never understood. My cousin and I already said that if his father had gone to the 1-6 insurrection like he planned we would have both turned him in. Plenty of other people have actually done that and were applauded for doing their patriotic duty, not judged because they were related to an anti-American insurrectionist. @TheMiddleWay Not global? Tiktok, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter are 4 of the top 10 most used websites in the entire world. How exactly is condemnation from people all over the globe on those sites not massive and global exactly? "The #MeToo movement is one example of how publicly calling out powerful individuals can lead to a widespread cultural shift. When sexual abuse allegations against former film producer Harvey Weinstein became public in 2017, it led to his conviction as a sex offender. Other influential people have faced their own reckonings for similar misconducts, and societal attitudes toward sexism and sexual harassment are becoming more intolerant." https://www.ucf.edu/pegasus/is-cancel-culture-effective/ I would note that this has made many, if not most men more cognizant of how their behaviors and words may be construed or harmful to women. Even the fear that I could do something to harm a woman (and get canceled) makes me want to be extra careful, regretful if I had ever done anything that made a woman uncomfortable, and thankful I had the opportunity to improve my behavior before it canceled me ("killed me" for this analogy). Anti-vaxxers that aren't dead yet, family members of dead anti-vaxxers who are anti-vaxxers themselves or have other loved ones they can still persuade to get vaccinated, and any third party looking at the public condemnation of anti-vaxxers has the opportunity to correct the behavior they're participating in, that would invite such condemnation, in the same way. As for your response to: Why would you assume that the shaming couldn't drive economic and legal pressures? "Because I've been given no reason to assume that it does." How about the new laws in dozens of states that help to address sexual abuse that were a direct result of the public shaming of the #MeToo movement?? https://www.marketplace.org/2020/01/07/metoo-brought-dozens-state-law-changes/

ChestRockfield replies on Jan 15, 2022:
@FearlessFly You can't say in the last sentence that we can't individually control how government money is spent right after saying it's their own dime. Own dime means you get to determine how it's spent.
I hope you are ready

I'm definitely ready to add whatever vaccines are needed to my regimen. Vaccines have saved me from so many different diseases so I'll gladly add additional protection.

And unlike the moron in the picture, you won't leave bandages on your arm for months and months.
What is your take on Right To Repair ?
FearlessFly comments on Jan 15, 2022:
For Mercedes Benz the headlight has to be married to the car, so they have to use a specific computer, which communicates to GERMANY, to marry the light module to the car... To replace a headlight. VW has to "pair" the battery with the car. You can't replace your own battery any more. . . . ...
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 15, 2022:
How sweet would an "open source" car be? Standardized frame, lights, connectors, everything. You could buy the standardized parts from any manufacturer and everything would be plug and play. The cars would all be boring and similar, but they'd be dirt cheap to buy, repair, upgrade, etc.
Often feels like it.
ChestRockfield comments on Jan 10, 2022:
Wait, that means that either exists (gross) or someone did all that for a joke?

@AtheistInNC I can't even do real karaoke, not jumping in to the 'do uncomfortable stuff in front of others' by shitting next to someone else.

We could not get a Constitutional Amendment passed saying that women were equal human beings to men. And women are now serving in the same roles in the military which was the supposed excuse to "protect" us.
ChestRockfield replies on Jan 14, 2022:
@BufftonBeotch That may be true, but mine is a conditional statement. * If * enough women cared about women's rights and autonomy as their priority, * then * they could enact any piece of legislation they wanted to get equality.

@DragonDust I apologize, I still don't know what you're trying to say. Are you trying to say that women aren't a majority? Please expound so we can have a dialogue about the actual topic instead of this back and forth of not making sense to each other.

ChestRockfield comments on Jan 14, 2022:
Um, this is kind of a self-defeating argument. The absence of government would be anarchy where anyone person or persons could exert their will over others and have degrees of success or failure based on how much power they wield. So, in essence, isn't this just whining about the fact that they are ...

@Castlepaloma You're still living under the protection of the law whether you admit it or not. If there was suddenly no government, no laws, no police, no jail, no threat of punishment whatsoever for anything, and you had some shit other people wanted, your compete package would get ripped the fuck apart.

I simply cannot wait to get my Biden hat. Gonna get a Biden flag too and then start driving around everywhere with that flag on my vehicle. @Paul4747 If you think I'm kidding about a stark difference between Biden and Trump you should probably stop talking to me because I'd be irretrievably stupid and a waste of your time to talk to.

@Castlepaloma There is no economy and relationships in total anarchy. (Nor is there affordable housing or any kind of freedom if you're not the baddest MF around.) You're talking out of both sides of your mouth just like the OP video.

@Paul4747 I think he's making a joke about the stark difference between the Democratic and Republican parties.
So it took less time to be disenchanted with Biden than it did Trump.

Yeah, well Americans always vote against whomever they elected President when their mid term elections are held. With rare exceptions they're as predictable as pavlovian dogs in that sense.
