@Forkbeard I sort of remember it, though not the name. I remember various things of Rowland Emett (I just checked that spelling), including a fascinating clock and lots of cartoons. Wikipedia says there is a permanent exhibition of representative examples of Emett's work at Stoneywish Nature reserve in Ditchling, East Sussex. I'd like to know if you go, or have been (it's a bit too far for me :( )

Corrugated iron was used a lot for roofing back then. Even the Mechanics' Hall has it. I think the color is pretty accurate but I can't remember what street the house is in so I can't check. It's certainly not quite the usual color but I guess it was the owner's choice.

You have to look carefully but that is the NYC skyline as seen through the Passaic NJ smog

Yes it is. This photo was taken on the glacier nevé, right at the top. The foot of the glacier is retreating quite significantly.

It was summer, and it wasn't even cold up there (no wind). But yes, not being able to take off again would have been a big worry!
