Atheism/Agnosticism (I see no need to make a distinction) began early, around age 10 or 11. I had been terrified of before then, because He could end my life, anytime He wanted. I would lie in bed at night, trying to find a comfortable position where I could not hear my heart beating because He might make it stop, for no reason at all. It didn't even take a sin to make Him do it. This state of abject terror could not go on. So I began to challenge Him - saying, OK - if you make it stop, go on and make it stop. He never did. It became apparent that he was either (1) non-existent, or (2) neither omnipotent nor omniscient, or (3) simply not interested. Over the succeeding weeks during which my challenge remained unanswered, I gradually realized that my fears were groundless and , if he existed, was superfluous.
