Indeed. Late 90's a colleague of mine in the film industry owned the local alternative night club called Triangles (haha, see what they did there) in Moncton, NB. It was the usual cast party go to spot. Always completely awash in neon pink, blue and purple.

An interesting article. I count myself fortunate to have had my two teenage sons at home during the 2 layoff periods from work during 2 different lock downs in the past year. Davekp comments on Jan 15, 2021:
I don’t generally give advice to others. I tend to try and relate to what others say as a way to enter the conversation with empathy. So I hope you take this with the constructive intent with which it is meant. I must recommend that you try to avoid labelling yourself in the negative. While it may have some credence in your thinking, at this time of some personal conflict referring to yourself as, “I am a Snowflake.” can do more harm to your moment to moment self esteem and ego than you might think by forming a feedback loop of self denigration. And, in the right context, being humbled can be an awesome state of being to find oneself in. But the outward admission of weakness can become an internal self fulfilling prophecy. Sometimes giving voice turns into giving the thought life. If this is the foundation you start with there is a difficult build ahead. I feel for your current situation though. Everything seems more than a bit off track for you, for me.. for all of us. To a degree I think we are all just faking it ‘til we make it these days. Lol You are an artist.. I’m an artist .. wanna chat about projects and stuff? Maybe find something positive in the works. ๐Ÿ˜โ˜€๏ธ

Similar notion to one I always thought would be an excellent posit for a sci-fi short story. Davekp comments on Jan 13, 2021:
When almost half the voting population seem to not be able to discern fact from fiction because of a cult like fanaticism, you are presented with an unprecedented need to deprogram a huge swath of the country. It’s hard to say what the emerging future of America will be. But it seems almost certain at this point to be facing the authoritarian threat with begrudging pushback help from the Republican side of the aisle. This is good. In the short term continuing “insurrections” seem almost guaranteed to occur around the country. The call to arms is still carrying adrenaline in its veins. In the longer term I think getting the non-democratic (seditious) factions rooted out and dealt with in a lawful manner would seem a necessary step. In any case, taking care of yourself and those you love is still the first order of any day irrespective of political upheavals. Turn off the news and try to share a laugh over a game of cards (or something) for a few minutes. Create and Maintain your Normal. โ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธโ˜€๏ธ

Good morning Everyone, and Happy Sunday! It's pose your own question day - have fun!
Davekp comments on Jan 10, 2021:
My cousin sent this picture to me yesterday from the past summer. It is a funeral Pyre of an old friend. Sometimes inanimate objects become such a consistent and memory time stamp part of our lives. I would like to commemorate here such an object. The planks and rope in the burn barrel in the picture are what was left of the homemade raft at our cottage. Hours in the frigid Atlantic. Surviving intense wind, rain and waves for the better part of 25 years. It was finally deemed just too water logged, and “old” to get through another year. The swimming raft at the cottage provided countless hours of temporary refuge for literally hundreds of shivering, hysterically laughing children and adults over the decades. Whether immediate family, visiting relatives, or wandering strangers on the beach who saw the raft and decided to take a dip.. this 50 square feet of wooden platform covered with heavy canvas for grip offered the moment of respite from the frigid water. Seals sunning on the rock. Everyone, regardless of age or size revelled in their chance to be King or Queen of the Castle on the Ocean. If only for a brief moment, that raft became the first moment for many of savouring conquest. I look forward to building a new one next summer. My question... What object in your life do you consider in a similar vein of remembrance ?

As we all know but often can't come to terms with, our lives are up to us as individuals. My life is not at the whim of anybody else. I allow myself to be happy, sad, forgiving, resolute., proud, humiliated.. etc. Something I am using to propel myself into a new life as I approach 60 is my ability to learn. Acquiring skills for this modern age, especially in the area of communication and social media tech, is opening doors to meeting new people and challenges and keeping the world relevant to me and me to the world. Do married couples, before they untie the knot, seek or get counseling?
Davekp comments on Dec 28, 2020:
After 17 years when my ex decided she needed her freedom to follow a more fulfilling path I asked if she would care to get counseling. She declined. In fact she flat out refused to even have a conversation with me about the how's and why's of the whole thing. She said she did not want to become my therapist. I found this somewhat peculiar as I wasn't the one who was having the "I'm trapped" feelings. But she was never one to confront issues straight on and in the past has held the view that serious discussions (arguements) are a sign of dysfunction in a relationship.. hence her estrangement from her father. So here we are 3 years later.. the waters have calmed and we deal amicably with things concerning the kids. She has not moved on to more Fulfilling things, as far as I can tell, .. really only moved on to a small rented apartment just outside of town. I think she is now under the impression that I somehow left her or that I forced her out or something. I don't think she is unhappy with her life but I think it's worth noting how we manage to convince ourselves of our victimization when consequences of our own actions come home to roost. I'm quite sure had we gone to a councilor or had a good third party debrief about our relationship we would both have benefited from that dose of reality.
So I'm supposed to see the dentist today.

Davekp comments on Dec 4, 2020:
I think relying on technology as a basis for sexuality makes as much sense as anything else. Probably more hygenic. As to wide acceptance.. who would know unless you told them? But I do see a looming pitfall to the online scheme. Where human to human contact concerning dating and sex is frequently over wrought with stress brought on by personal insecurities and communication missteps. The Technosexuals among us will have to deal with bad software upgrades and rapid product obsolescence. I don't envy them having to make a call to a service provider in order to get off.
Has anyone on here ever "written off" a family member?
Davekp comments on Dec 4, 2020:
I haven't personally but I watched my ex estrange from her father over issues she feels he needs to atone for when she was growing up. This happened maybe 10 years ago.i find it bizarre, but not unexpected or surprising considering how the world turns, that in the last 5 years she has become more and more like the person she estranged. She is turning out to be as judgmental and emotionally unavailable as he ever was. The closest I've come would be the roughly 20 year period between age 20 and 40 where I simply could not have a conversation with my oldest sister who has been living with and controlled by a violent and angry abusive partner since I was 17 or 18. I could not reconcile how such an intelligent and wonderful person could sacrifice her entire life. It killed me inside every time I saw her and I would end up in arguments putting more pressure on her. i had to back away. I lost two decades with my sister. In my early 40's I realized I was suffering this relationship loss and I resolved to work through my angst with my feelings. I learned how to compartmentalize. We have been very loving to each other ever since and have a brother/ sister relationship that is normal, healthy and progressive. No laughing matter but a little payback.. her partner has not only abused my sister his entire life but as a strong alcoholic his systems are slowly shutting down.. hours on the toilet every morning as his guts fall apart, diagnosed stage 3 or 4 sclerosis of the liver. his retinas are detaching with regularity, he sometimes randomly bleeds through his pores. He's just an effing internal mess. Personally I'm not sure there is enough pain that he could endure that would make me feel true sympathy beyond what one human might feel for another as a basic thought process when not wishing things on your "worst enemy". Of course, as always, my sis is doing her loyal best to continue on as the caregiver. I love her sense of humanity. I am proud I turned myself around to be back in her life. My take away..yes back away from the toxicity for your own sanity and health. But be open to the notion that over time other things evolve to become important as well. Your son may change. You might want to hope you are there if he does.

Ladies, can you explain why unsolicited dick pics are offensive?
Davekp comments on Dec 4, 2020:
"why are unsolicited dick pics offensive?" That's an excellent question. I often wonder that same thing. To be clear I have never sent one myself and find the thought of doing so rude at the least and criminal at the most. Rude because it wasn't asked for and possibly criminal because in a brand new contact I don't exactly know to whom I am sending the picture. Wouldn't it be fun to get caught up in some minors online dating hack? I think I question why women, or men if the case is such. get offended in the first place. If you are an adult putting yourself out there on ANY dating site you would have to be expecting all manner of interactions. If you aren't aware of the reality that everyone's sense of boundaries revolving around good taste is different just search YouTube for Walmart Fashionista A dick, is a dick, is a dick. Like tits are tits, are tits. Which I happily accept pics of unsolicited. :) Being offended takes energy and uses up valuable brain time. There are better things to get haughty about.
