'Inexcusable': Hillary Clinton, Who Lost to Trump in 2016, Won't Commit to Helping Bernie Sanders ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 21, 2020:
This isn't just Hillary. Nobody in the DNC wants to back anyone who is progressive. This is how Bernie lost out the first time. Hillary thought she had it all sewn up and Donna Brazile wrote a book about it. Zuckerberg even offered help and Hillary said no, I got this. Bernie started looking pretty good after Hillary lost but people don't care. The DNC doesn't care. So, it's no wonder to me that Trump asked the Ukrainian president for help with info on the Bidens that he could use in his re-election. Trump knows that the DNC does not want to back progressives and that makes Joe Biden the main contender against the Trump presidency.

We have the "what is spiritual?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 21, 2020:
I've said it before and I will say it again. Spirituality and "being spiritual" can mean almost anything that you want it to mean. That's it, cut and dried, end of story. Why is this so? Mostly because the terms are used by both believers and non-believers in so many various ways.

Baby Jesus gets a bath?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 20, 2020:
This is cute. Of course we all know that walking on water is just something that gods do. Maybe they do it when they are bored. In my church days they had a sermon that was preached claiming Peter could not do it because he "did not keep his eyes on Jesus." People would snivel and cry when they heard that. I cannot remember Jesus ever wanting to teach others the trick and saying you had to watch him closely.
Truly cursed.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 20, 2020:
I know that parenting is a hit and miss idea and that our parents were not perfect in the way they raised and disciplined us. Some parents tell you that as you get older. It does not stop us from seeing all the harsh and bad things we think they have done in bringing us up. Did anyone ever think that "I am not perfect, I am just forgiven" might be a big thing in religion because we needed this from our parents long ago? We never felt perfect. We never felt forgiven even if we were. In religion you get a second chance at this with your heavenly father. Do what he says and he is the perfect father and not like your earthly one. God so easily replaces the parents.

That would solve everything. :) Notice his remark that he has done more than any other administration. He tried that earlier at the UN and they laughed at him. Later he claimed it was a joke and the media mostly played his clip and cut out the laughter. People need to get this. He is totally serious and he is the joke. He scares the hell out of me but almost daily I hear others say Trump tells it like it is and he will shake things up. Don't these people give a damn about their own welfare? What is wrong with people?

DenoPenno comments on Jan 19, 2020:
If the ones claiming to be Christians ever wake up they will discover many things: Jesus never told anyone to be a good boy and give Caesar money. Jesus would not be angry coz of giveaway programs today that help the needy. I could go on and on with more and more of this because Jesus was never about helping the rich get richer or talking you into believing that this is how a proper system of government works. Jesus did not believe that rulers and governments would create jobs and the money would trickle back down to you. If anything does feel warm and is trickling down it is most likely piss.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 19, 2020:
In the end it will have to be a good sign if anyone involved in this is honest with themselves. Their honesty itself will point them to the truth. The opposite would be to put blame on culture changes in the world for the demise of your church. Some people may be that dumb but how could their god be that dumb? I recall being in a Pentecostal church when a man got up to testify and he says "I was just back here in the corner talking to the Lord and he told me this and so." I was a believer then and we all thought this was normal. I was even proud when Reagan invited the religious into the GOP. The truth of the matter is that there is no invisible man to talk to. If this was not considered to be religion (and therefore sacred) somebody would be locking these people up. The big problem is that many of them are running the government today. Anyone recall when Michelle Bachmann made statement that Obama was :bringing on the Apocalypse? The truth is that these people are more than happy to help bring on the Apocalypse. Now that is really scary! I told this story because many Methodist churches are similar to Pentecostal churches. Recall that Oral Roberts found a need to switch from one to the other and became Methodist. I have always thought this move had a lot to do with his University. Who would want a place of higher learning where people are talking in tongues.

I would have liked to have been there. Love your signs and this sounds exciting. As for the so called pro-life Christians they should wake up and read their bibles. Is the USA heading for a civil war? Lots of Trumpers claim they would take to the streets with their guns for Trump in a heartbeat. DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Don't you respect Donald Chump? He's saving us money by not appointing new heads of departments when those people have been fired or have resigned. He doesn't need them and can handle everything himself. The GOP knows this and that is why they stand behind him on it all. What I don't get is that he has a plan that will eliminate ISIS in 30 days. Why has that plan never been put into practice? Then he told everyone at the UN that he had done more for America in 2 short years than any other president in history. They laughed at him but Donnie did not think it was a joke. News media took the laughter out later when they reported the story, but all is fine and you should refinance your house. Maybe do a second mortgage. Donnie also has some great statewide health programs for you. Things you used to get free are now fairly cheap. Thoughts on the Bernie/Warren kerfuffle?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
I feel that it is a media provoked misunderstanding designed to discredit both Warren and Bernie. Keep in mind that the DNC wants nothing radical or too far left and even had Obama tell us so. In this sort of distraction remember that Trump asked the Ukraine for dirt on Biden and not Warren or Bernie. This tells me that both Trump and the DNC know in advance who Trump's 2020 rival will be. Look deeply inside this and you can see the anger that people had when Trump was elected and know also that it is still there on both sides. We have been betrayed. Isn't it time to refinance your home? Use every app that comes along and try a second mortgage. Is it all about money?
How do people feel about pulling good guy (or good person) deeds as an atheist?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 17, 2020:
Good guy or good person deeds. The key here is that if you do these things do not talk about them. It has nothing to do with gods or rewards and everything to do with you as a person. Secretly doing good deeds makes you a better person. Helping someone is good. Giving away all that you have makes you an idiot, so be smart and beware.

The structure of marriage is heavily based upon religion; in the sight of god, till death, what god ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I did my own divorce over 2 years ago. I was lucky because in 12 years of marriage we had no children. The core of marriage belief comes form religion. While people claim you should support your wife and children the basic marriage concept is out of the bible with a woman as property. I understand fully when women do not want to change their names. What about Mrs. Smith? Is that your name now and your identity? It is a poor name that only honors the male in the relationship. Again, this comes out of ownership. Marry me and remain whoever you are.
Who in here has actually had what they would consider a successful long distance relationship?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
I don't think that would work for me. The closest thing that would work for me is to be in a relationship where they live with me on the weekend and then go to a city to work 5 days before it happens again. I had that once and it worked fairly well until I discovered that she was slowly moving clothes into my income tax drawer. Imagine if she lived with me full time.
Depressed Agnostics?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 16, 2020:
Certainly it is correct. I have less friends because of my non-belief. This means I am likely to not be as involved in activities that many others share. There is also the fact that if you are an active church goer more people appear to readily agree with you. I'm talking about your group only. Am I depressed? Hell yeah! It comes with the territory and does not get better. You simply learn to live with it. If anyone is thinking therapy I strongly advise you seek out a non-believing therapist. Otherwise it is just a big waste of time. BTW, I am my own therapist.

Why are atheist so obsessed by religion?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 14, 2020:
Right on. As an atheist my obsession with religion is that I came out of religion. My parents took me in that direction by age 12 and I also had earlier experiences that made me aware of gods and religion. I studied to be a preacher and then realized years later that it is all false. There is nothing supernatural. Only things that humans do not understand. This means I am not convinced on many levels - no spacemen, nessie, or bigfoot, etc. If you think otherwise then prove them. You can't do it. I do not trust those who think there are no gods but believe in aliens, etc. This would be like someone who thought pixies lived in their shoes. I do not believe people like Bush who said he and Laura were praying for us. How so? They do not even know us. Praying over a bunch of prayer requests written on paper is just more nonsense. If god knew the needs in advance why did he not just take care of them? Why would anyone have to pray over them? My obsession with religion is kind of like this. To be a good mechanic you need to know a lot about cars. If you know nothing you are just making a claim and you are not a mechanic.

God is not necessary for religion.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 13, 2020:
I think you are really onto something here and for those who do not understand it you have just explained Deism very well. Deists did not have science as we do today and like others they needed and wanted answers. Their god created everything and set it in motion, then disappeared. This is because they knew from the beginning that there was no god there to interact with. It makes them much smarter than others today in my opinion. Cut to "2001: A Space Odyssey." Suppose that HAL the computer had no name. The film would not have made as much sense and would not have been as interesting. If I put this back into religion I can see why people would want a personal god. You cannot prove him in any way but the story becomes more interesting and maybe your religion has features that another one does not. This is why there are so many religious claims in the world. It is your invisible man who provides all the answers. To be in control you have to have all the answers.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The biggest reason I can think of is that we all like to have answers. As non-believers we know that nobody has all the answers, but you do secretly feel superior to others if you think you are smarter. Religious people seem to be deluded into thinking they have most of the answers and god will provide other answers later in heaven.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I learned this in my Finis Jennings Dake bible studies. He didn't say it the way I'm gonna explain it, and I will refrain from listing scriptures. Either heaven isn't that far up or you get great eyesight once you die. Anyone who ever watched Flash Gordon should understand it. Not only can you look down and guide your living relatives, you can also look down and see those in hell. I'm not sure if that is to laugh at them or god doesn't want you to get any ideas. How would you be happy in heaven seeing your relatives in hell? As for your dead relatives guiding you here on earth, that is a real stretch. I'm alive and you are dead so why are you guiding me? You should have guided yourself a bit better. Also, these guiding relatives are angels now and they have wings. Apparently this is bird-like wings with feathers. Every time some of my relatives find a feather they know the dead relative has been around them. (I'm not kidding here.) It ticks them off when I say they should have looked for a bird.

DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
I have no fear of hell at all. This comes from my approach to scriptures and where they came from along with when we actually got the bible as we know it today. If you study this you can see it was ever changing from the 4th century until now. The wonderful apologists keep trying to explain everything for the modern world and their views change also. I just do not buy it. My Buybull daze is over.
It's sometimes strange to look back on one's self in the past, particularly the distant past.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 12, 2020:
The song "Imagine" is a very good example here. Most people do not see it but they love the song. Maybe they just imagine "no war" and don't see the rest. Within myself I see too much change in too short a time. Some things just within the last 4 years or so. It is so uncanny. I see things differently now than when I was with my ex. Not anything that would have saved that union but things that might have slowed the inevitable down some. I see changes in outright belief of mine over time, and also some in just a short few years. I learn more and it is enlightening. Sometimes you realize that something you took as fact for a long time is not fact at all. Suddenly you wake up to this and wonder how you ever had it wrong to start with. Living alone allows me this and I see that life is quite an adventure and a development.
Could philosophical discussions be better and more productive? [aeon.co]
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Certainly, but I don't care for them much. I'm not into Plato or Epicurus. I don't read or argue Socrates. They offer nothing to me in the modern world and I blatantly refuse to discuss religious philosophy. I will bring out religious ideas by bible claims but usually it is to show you how silly it all is.
International Olympic Committee prohibits kneeling, hand gestures
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Does this make it harder for an Olympian to declare that his god drove him on to win while others there had the same god? Maybe it means god is also a sportsman. IDK.
I enjoy the interchanges of thoughts and feelings with many others on this site.

I like them also.
This doesn't have anything to do with being agnostic.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Where you live is your choice but I live as I do in Missouri because I have a $200 mortgage. If I move and increase that along with utilities, etc. and do not increase my income I am in trouble. This is how I look at it. Sometimes others do not understand that and they move to a high dollar area. At my work we are paid twice a month and Friday the assistant manager was showing off his bank account with $4.29 left in it. To live like that I might start thinking suicide. :)

Sometimes, I feel like I'm never going to really fit into society anymore.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
We share a lot of similar things and I can identify with a lot of what you are saying. I was also Pentecostal. Today I am a militant atheist. My weapon of choice is a keyboard. I might add that I do feel extremely isolated but I have brought this upon myself. There is no going back. This journey is like the Wizard of Oz once you have seen behind the curtain.
The best thing about being agnostic is knowing (as much as it is humanly possible) there is no hell.
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course there is no hell. That concept came out of the confusion and misdirected developments presented in religious writings and scripture. If I do not believe these writings to be valid from any source why would I believe in a hell? Many people go around saying "yeah, but there still could be a god." Why would they want one? Are there people going around saying "yeah, there still could be a hell?" Once again, why would you want one? Is there life after death? IDK. Is your food still there on your plate once you have eaten it? How will it be reborn? You may take this as comedy but I am answering some very serious questions.
It was true then and it is also true today. Time to Dump Trump.

Twenty years ago there was only one country in the Middle East that had no religious extremist ...
DenoPenno comments on Jan 11, 2020:
Of course they do. This is because it is all about money and wealth, especially mineral wealth. Americans are played back and forth by both parties and so is the rest of the world. Just when you have had enough of it from one party the other one steps in to let you believe you are actually getting your treasured way of life back. Both parties work for the controllers and one is more extreme than the other. Currently we have a wave of "god's last stand" in which Evangelicals agg this all on in hopes of bringing about the second coming. If Jesus returns through our border with Mexico he will never be recognized. Religious hypocrites are falling right in there with our controllers. None of this is about you or your welfare in any way.
A belated post to express my pleasure in being a part of this group.

Do atheists overreach?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 10, 2020:
**Are atheists rationally justified when they claim to to be able to be good without god.** That's where I would have put the book down. The writer has already stated his opinion and you will not change it in debate or otherwise. After all, he wrote a book on it. He obviously believes in the invisible man in the sky.

Sorry for your bad experience as I was once a fundamentalist. My stepson's wife thinks we are going to war with Iran. This morning she posted in Facebook that "god should protect our troops if it is his will" and this crap went on and on in a meme. I had to answer. I asked her what if it was not god's will. In that case we are all screwed! She didn't like it, but I'm tired of all these prayers "if it is god's will." Your fundamentalist BF seems delusional.
Does anyone else have a homophobic family member?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 10, 2020:
Lots of people seem to think that "the gay might rub off." This nonsense goes on into the religious community. It seems strengthened by the HIV threat because many do not know that sex is not the only way to become HIV. Are any of these people the same as rapists, pedophiles, and others? Not that I'm aware of. Your neighbor might be a murderer but then maybe they are not.
What if there was never religion in the world?
DenoPenno comments on Jan 10, 2020:
It would have never happened that way. Just look at our world today. Everything is about power and control. Religion is used in this game of power and control. It is nice to know that your god is on your side. You are the only one who has the right god.
