FearlessFly comments on May 30, 2020:
"Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)" is a 1936 song, with music and lyrics by Louis Prima, who first recorded it with the New Orleans Gang. The song is strongly identified with the big band and swing eras. Several have performed the piece as an instrumental, including Fletcher Henderson and, most famously, Benny Goodman. On July 6, 1937, "Sing, Sing, Sing" was recorded in Hollywood with Benny Goodman on clarinet; Harry James, Ziggy Elman, and Chris Griffin on trumpets; Red Ballard and Murray McEachern on trombones; Hymie Schertzer and George Koenig on alto saxophones; Art Rollini and Vido Musso on tenor saxophone; Jess Stacy on piano; Allan Reuss on guitar; Harry Goodman on bass; and Gene Krupa on drums. The song was arranged by Jimmy Mundy.

It was Keller's only hit either side of the Atlantic. A popular misconception is that this song quotes the line "the sun shines bright" from the Stephen Foster song "My Old Kentucky Home", but this is untrue as the line contained in "Here Comes Summer" is "oh, let the sun shine bright". It was also recorded by Cliff Richard and The Shadows (whose version was not released as a single) and, with different, lyrics by The Dave Clark Five in 1970

FearlessFly comments on May 29, 2020:
The song credit is shared between all the members of the band, although Freddie Mercury played it with his band Wreckage in the late 1960s before Queen was created. The recorded version may be lyrics from Mercury and music from Mercury and Brian May. It was the first song Queen performed live in 1970, but it underwent many changes musically and lyrically before getting recorded, resulting in credit going to the entire band. Early versions of the song were much slower, according to the band, although no bootlegs exist.

(from popmatters.com) The song, taken from the new release, Farmer's Almanacslithers and slides, pushes its way under our skin like southern humidity, leaves our feet tapping in a hypnotic rhythm informed by the march of history and the heaviness of heritage. The melodic and rhythmic elements, both a burden and gift visited upon the artist and the listener, haunting us and reminding us of music's most primal urges and its ability to unleash those primitive instincts. This isn't music you think about as much as you absorb, music that becomes as integral to your deep self as your blood and skin.

Walking On Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves- [m.youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
"Walking on Sunshine" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for Katrina and the Waves' 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. Royalties from airplay and advertisements of "Walking on Sunshine" have been extremely high. Katrina and the Waves kept the publishing rights and the royalties that typically go to the songwriter have been divided among the band members.

FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
Its original title was "Dead End Street", but it was changed during recording, perhaps to avoid confusion with a 1966 hit of the same title by The Kinks. Some words that survived from that version can be heard in the opening of the third verse, "I've been livin' on a dead end street".
Revolution Rock by The Clash- [m.youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
The song was written by Danny Ray and released as a single to modest success. According to Paul Simonon, "Danny Ray put out his version of "Revolution Rock" just before we were recording London Calling." Ray sampled the Jackie Edwards song "Get Up" on the track, so Edwards is listed as the co-writer. Joe Strummer changed several of the lyrics, including a reference to Mack the Knife and the trend of smashing up seats at punk shows ("Everybody smash up your seats, and rock to this brand new beat").
Another old favourite at bedtime tonight....Micheal Buble’ - Everything. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
Bublé wrote the lyrics of "Everything" for his then girlfriend Emily Blunt. He later explained: "I wrote the song about the great happiness of real love, but at the same time I was making a statement about the world. We’re living in really crazy times, and I wanted to say that no matter what’s happening, this person in my life is what really makes it worthwhile."
The Stranglers. - Golden Brown. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
There has been much controversy surrounding the lyrics. In his book The Stranglers Song By Song (2001), Hugh Cornwell states "'Golden Brown' works on two levels. It's about heroin and also about a girl." Essentially the lyrics describe how "both provided me with pleasurable times."

FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
"Roadrunner" is a song written by Jonathan Richman and recorded in various versions by Richman and his band, in most cases credited as the Modern Lovers. Richman has described it as an ode to Massachusetts Route 128. Critic Greil Marcus described it as "the most obvious song in the world, and the strangest"

Scorpions Big City Nights ..[youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
Like many Scorpions songs, "Big City Nights" was composed by band members Rudolf Schenker and Klaus Meine. The song was also released as the third single from the album in 1984, with the B-side being "Bad Boys Running Wild". The guitar solo is performed by Rudolf Schenker.

FearlessFly comments on May 25, 2020:
Guitarist Robby Krieger is responsible for all guitar parts on "Roadhouse Blues"; Morrison shouts "Do it, Robby, do it!" (especially audible on the official audio proof of DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD where the single vocal track can be separated from other instruments) at the start of the guitar solo. Ray Manzarek switched from a Wurlitzer electric piano to a tack piano (the same type as used on the Beach Boys' "Good Vibrations"). Ex-Lovin' Spoonful frontman John Sebastian contributed harmonica (listed as "G. Puglese" for contractual reasons).

FearlessFly comments on May 24, 2020:
The song, along with "Reason to Believe," was one of the two major songwriting hits from the album, with more than a dozen cover versions having been recorded following its release. British radio presenter and writer Charlie Gillett noted the song's ability to achieve "the elusive balance between personal miseries and universal sufferings," while author Mark Brend praised the song's "fragile pop sensibilities"

Queen. - Radio Ga Ga. live in San Remo, 1984. [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on May 24, 2020:
"Radio Ga Ga" is a 1984 song performed and recorded by the British rock band Queen, written by their drummer Roger Taylor. It was released as a single with "I Go Crazy" by Brian May as the B-side. It was included on the album The Works. The song makes reference to two important radio events of the 20th century; Orson Welles' 1938 broadcast of H. G. Wells' The War of the Worlds in the lyric "through wars of worlds/invaded by Mars", and Winston Churchill's 18 June 1940 "This was their finest hour" speech from the House of Commons, in the lyric "You've yet to have your finest hour".
