FearlessFly comments on Apr 9, 2020:
(from sinificatojournal.com) by Kimmy Sophia Brown :: Sep 29, 1998 I first heard Iris DeMent performing her song, "My Life", a few years ago on the TV show, "Austin City Limits". This song is one of the sweetest observations about life that I've ever heard. It made me cry then, and still does nearly every time I hear it.

FearlessFly comments on Apr 8, 2020:
The song had its origins during the recording of 1993's Siamese Dream. According to frontman Billy Corgan, "somewhere, I have a tape of us from 1993 endlessly playing the 'world is a vampire' part over and over". It was not until 1995 that Corgan finished the song with the noted chorus "rat in a cage", on an acoustic guitar during the same session that "Landslide" was recorded. The lyrics "Can you fake it, for just one more show?" may refer to the band's experience headlining the 1994 Lollapalooza festival, with Corgan calling it the "old job".

Zeitgeist: The Movie is a 2007 film by Peter Joseph presenting a number of conspiracy theories. The film's introduction features animations, footage of war, explosions, and the September 11 attacks and audio quotes from Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and George Carlin. Part I claims that the Christian religion is mainly derived from other religions, astronomical assertions, astrological myths, and other traditions. In furtherance of the Jesus myth hypothesis, this part disputes the historicity of Jesus, who, it claims, is a literary and astrological hybrid, nurtured by political forces and opportunists. Part I was influenced by the work of Acharya S. The 9/11 attacks are the subject of part II of Zeitgeist: the Movie. Part II alleges that the September 11 attacks were either orchestrated or allowed to happen by elements within the United States government in order to generate mass fear, justify the War on Terror, provide a pretext for the curtailment of civil liberties, and produce economic gain. It asserts that the U.S. government had advance knowledge of the attacks, that the military deliberately allowed the planes to reach their targets, and that World Trade Center buildings 1, 2, and 7 underwent a controlled demolition. Part III states that the Federal Reserve System is controlled by a small cabal of international bankers who conspire to create global calamities to enrich themselves. Three wars involving the United States during the twentieth century are highlighted as part of this alleged agenda, started by specifically engineered events, including the sinking of the RMS Lusitania, the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. The film asserts that such wars serve to sustain conflict in general and force the U.S. government to borrow money, thereby increasing the profits of the international bankers. The film also claims that the Federal Income Tax is illegal. Zeitgeist: the Movie claims that the U.S. Government's income tax is unconstitutional. Part III also alleges a secret agreement to merge the United States, Canada and Mexico into a North American Union as a step toward the creation of a single world government. The film speculates that under such a government, every human could be implanted with an RFID chip to monitor individual activity and suppress dissent.

Angus Young stated in the liner notes of the 2003 re-release of The Razors Edge: It started off from a little trick I had on guitar. I played it to Mal and he said 'Oh, I've got a good rhythm idea that will sit well in the back.' We built the song up from that. We fiddled about with it for a few months before everything fell into place. Lyrically, it was really just a case of finding a good title ... We came up with this thunder thing, based on our favorite childhood toy ThunderStreak, and it seemed to have a good ring to it. AC/DC = Power. That's the basic idea.

FearlessFly comments on Apr 7, 2020:
"Anyone who remembers the 60s probably wasn't there" Robin Williams "Eve of Destruction" is a protest song written by P. F. Sloan in mid-1964. Several artists have recorded it, but the best-known recording was by Barry McGuire. The song references social issues of its period, including the Vietnam War, the draft, the threat of nuclear war, the Civil Rights movement, turmoil in the Middle East, and the American space program. The American media helped popularize the song by using it as an example of everything that was wrong with the youth of that time. Due to its controversial lyrics, some American radio stations, "claiming it was an aid to the enemy in Vietnam",[3] banned the song. The song also drew flak from conservatives. It was also banned by some British radio stations.

FearlessFly comments on Apr 7, 2020:
"Blue Suede Shoes" is a rock-and-roll standard written and first recorded by Carl Perkins in 1955 and covered by Elvis Presley in 1956. It is the opening track of Presley's debut album Elvis Presley. It is considered one of the first rockabilly records, incorporating elements of blues, country, and pop music of the time. Johnny Cash planted the seed for the song in the fall of 1955, while Perkins, Cash, Elvis Presley and other Louisiana Hayride acts toured throughout the South. Cash told Perkins of a black airman, C. V. White,[2] whom he had met when serving in the military in Germany, who had referred to his military regulation airmen's shoes as "blue suede shoes". Cash suggested that Perkins write a song about the shoes. Perkins replied, "I don't know anything about shoes. How can I write a song about shoes?"

Morrison originally wrote the song as a poem about William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge making a literary trip to the Lake District in England where they worked together on the poems that were to become their landmark joint venture, Lyrical Ballads. Morrison has been quoted as saying, "['Summertime in England'] was actually part of a poem I was writing, and the poem and the song sorta merged... I'd read several articles about this particular group of poets who were writing about this particular thing, which I couldn't find in the framework I was in.

Sublime - Doin' Time/Summertime [youtube.com]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 6, 2020:
The lyrics tell of a cheating girlfriend, whose infidelities and poor treatment of her lover makes him feel like he is in prison. "Doin' Time" is a loose cover of "Summertime" by George Gershwin, composed for the opera Porgy and Bess. The track heavily samples a cover of "Summertime" by jazz flautist Herbie Mann, a live bossa nova version from his album Herbie Mann at the Village Gate.

Constant Craving - K D Lang - [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 6, 2020:
"Constant Craving" is a song written by k.d. lang and Ben Mink. The Rolling Stones used a refrain very similar to that of "Constant Craving" in their 1997 single "Anybody Seen My Baby?." They later gave writing credits on that song to k.d. lang and Mink, shared with the original authors Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.

FearlessFly comments on Apr 6, 2020:
There were two different videos made for the single. One has the band miming a performance in a slanted room; the band members appear to be standing at an unnatural angle. The other video is more elaborate, contains war imagery, single-word slogans in knock-out text, features Billy Currie appearing as a radio announcer, and Midge Ure as a soldier.
Good morning! The full moon woke me. Moon river Audrey Hepburn [youtu.be]
FearlessFly comments on Apr 6, 2020:
"Moon River" is a song composed by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Mercer and Mancini wrote the song for Audrey Hepburn to sing in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's. The lyrics, written by Mercer, are reminiscent of his childhood in Savannah, Georgia, including its waterways. As a child, he had picked huckleberries in summer, and connected them with a carefree childhood and Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn.

"Someone You Loved" is a song recorded by Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi. In an interview with NME, Capaldi revealed that it took him six months to write the song. He said, "A lot of people say that 'the best songs fall into your lap' and that they're the easiest ones to write and take the shortest amount of time: I wholeheartedly disagree with that. I think my best songs come from me sitting at a piano, bashing my head against a brick wall for hours and hours on end to get one good melody."

I have read his book (prescient!) : In March 2017, Osterholm and Mark Olshaker published the critically acclaimed Deadliest Enemy: Our War Against Killer Germs. Richard Preston, author of The Hot Zone, writes of the book: "When Osterholm tells us that the potential for global pandemics is a life-or-death issue for every person on the planet, we need to listen. Deadliest Enemy is a powerful and necessary book that looks at the threat of emerging diseases with clarity and realism, and offers us not just fear but plans."
It’s bedtime again for me and tonight my last posting is Sinead O’Connor with Antônio Carlos ...
FearlessFly comments on Apr 5, 2020:
The lyrics were written in Portuguese by Vinícius de Moraes and in English by Norman Gimbel. In Brazil the song goes by the title "Insensatez", though it translates more accurately to "How Foolish". The song resembles Chopin's prelude in E minor. The song has been performed and recorded often by a diverse group of people, such as Olivia Newton-John, Petula Clark, The Monkees, Liberace, William Shatner, Iggy Pop, Judy Garland and The 5th Dimension. More conventional versions can be found in the jazz genre by Joao Gilberto, Laurindo Almeida, Wes Montgomery, Stan Getz, George Shearing, Diana Krall, and Pat Metheny.

Written by guitarist Carl Bell, "Bad Day" was written before the band was signed to a major label. The band tried to record a version for their major label debut, but according to lead singer Brett Scallions, "We tried recording 'Bad Day' back when we did the Sunburn album [in 1998] and just didn’t get it right. It was a song that was with us way before we signed on with Sony and Epic."

FearlessFly comments on Apr 5, 2020:
Rob Thomas told Billboard magazine that it's "a love song and a rock song; there's a hopeful tone to it. It's kind of like the person is saying, 'As misguided as I may be, these are things that it takes to be with me.'" This was Thomas' first attempt at a love song and he believes it is co-dependent of the 21st century. Thomas spoke on Storytellers that the song is about two people who are "both messed up", but they are together, so it doesn't matter.
It’s amazing! Even quite (otherwise) smart educated people can get taken in by conspiracy ...
