FearlessFly comments on Mar 23, 2020:
It was sung in the Navajo language by Navajo elder Kee Chee Jake from Chinle, Arizona. The song is a remixed version of a portion of the Navajo Shoe Game song (a part of the origin myth describing a game played among the day animals and night animals where the animals who discovered the shoe in which a yucca ball was hidden would win a permanent state of daylight or night).

FearlessFly comments on Mar 23, 2020:
"Red Rubber Ball" is sung from the perspective of a man who is exiting (or has recently exited) an unfulfilling relationship in which his significant other never gave him much attention or affection. He now looks forward to the future with a positive attitude.

FearlessFly comments on Mar 23, 2020:
"Something in the Air" is a song recorded by Thunderclap Newman, written by Speedy Keen who also sang the song. In 1969, Pete Townshend, The Who's guitarist, was the catalyst behind the formation of the band. The concept was to create a band to perform songs written by drummer and singer Speedy Keen, who had written "Armenia City in the Sky", the first track on The Who Sell Out. Townshend recruited jazz pianist Andy "Thunderclap" Newman (a friend from art college), and 15-year-old Glaswegian guitarist Jimmy McCulloch, who subsequently played lead guitar in Paul McCartney's Wings from 1974 to 1977 and died of a heroin overdose in 1979 aged 26. Keen played the drums and sang the lead.

(from theguardian.com) Later in the evening, struggling like DJ Dante through acoustic hell, I get the giggles during my song "Thank You God (For Fixing The Cataracts of Sam's Mum)" – a ditty that pokes fun at the megalomaniacal idea that an omnipotent being might have his attention diverted by the plight of a middle-class woman with minor ocular issues. Here in Texas, where it's perfectly normal to pray before every football match, board meeting and exam, and where the governor will happily organise mass rain-dances while ignoring climate data, it feels like the song has found its spiritual home.

FearlessFly comments on Mar 23, 2020:
"Let's Live for Today" is a song written by David "Shel" Shapiro and Italian lyricist Mogol, with additional English lyrics provided by Michael Julien. It was first recorded, with Italian lyrics, under the title of "Piangi Con Me" (translated as "Cry with Me") by the English band the Rokes in 1966. Later, when "Piangi Con Me" was to be released in the United Kingdom, publisher Dick James Music requested that staff writer Julien compose English lyrics for the song.[2] Julien composed new lyrics, rather than translating from the Italian, and it was his input that transformed "Piangi Con Me" into "Let's Live for Today".

According to a review at AllMusic by Tom Maginnis, the song seems to find lead singer Jim Morrison "pondering the state of the then emerging hippie youth culture and how they are perceived by mainstream or 'straight' society". A visit to New York City by The Doors inspired Jim Morrison to write "Strange Days" and other songs on Strange Days, the band's second studio album. As with many other of their songs, it was written far before it was recorded; a live version recorded in May 1966 can be found on the album London Fog 1966.

"Little Red Rooster" (or "The Red Rooster" as it was first titled) is a blues standard credited to arranger and songwriter Willie Dixon. The song was first recorded in 1961 by American blues musician Howlin' Wolf in the Chicago blues style. His vocal and slide guitar playing are key elements of the song. It is rooted in the Delta blues tradition and the theme is derived from folklore. Musical antecedents to "Little Red Rooster" appear in earlier songs by blues artists Charlie Patton and Memphis Minnie.

Chip Taylor: I wrote that song for prisoners. I woke up early on the last days of a session for a record of mine in Norway. The wonderful engineer lent me one of his guitars. I had this guitar that felt very differently in my hands, and the chords I played I’d never played before in that succession before. I wrote the song really fast. I was thinking about my interaction with prisoners that I had just seen and how much I love all of those guys. When I finished it I had a song that I knew I liked and felt like the prisoners would like it. And in fact they loved it when I played it in the prisons after that.

"The Greatest" is a song written by Don Schlitz, and recorded by American country music artist Kenny Rogers. In the song, a little boy is outside playing baseball by himself, saying, "I'm the greatest player," and tosses the ball up in the air to hit the ball and swings and misses. The boy repeats this two more times, striking himself out, and as his mother calls him inside for supper, he sees himself as the greatest pitcher, instead of the greatest hitter. The context of the song is played out in a commercial by The Foundation for a Better Life, promoting the value of Optimism.

To be completely honest, they actually looked more like characters from Workaholics, with their matching trucker hats and modest mustaches, than the band that makes my heart actually ache from beautiful, honest lyrics. Meier’s raw, raspy vocals convey a vulnerability and desperation that many feel at one point or another, but are afraid to vocalize. This emotion came through in songs like “Misty” and “So Long, Honey,” with Meier closing his eyes in contemplation, as if picturing the exact moment he was singing about and translating it back to us via song.

It’s a call to observe the planet, and take action.” In the clip, an astronaut falls to Earth from space and wanders through a nameless city, and then out into nature, silently observing both the chaos and quiet of the world around him. His journey ends when he arrives in the desert, begins to strip off his spacesuit, and then dissolves into the air.

(from broadwawworld.com) Reina Del Cid notes that she was finishing up the album and the melody for "Bernadette" came to her and wouldn't leave her alone. "It was almost like a ghost named Bernadette was tapping me on the shoulder and demanding that her story be told. So I booked an extra day in the studio, brought the band back in, and we recorded this one on the fly with no rehearsals."

FearlessFly comments on Mar 21, 2020:
Described by Harley as a "Gothic love song", "Sebastian" features a 50-plus piece orchestra and choir alongside the band, with orchestral arrangements by Andrew Powell. Harley spoke about the song and its lyrics in a short documentary for the Netherlands programme Top 2000: "It's poetry. It means what you want it to mean. "Sebastian" is the conduit, the tubes through which I took myself on that journey to write the story. I can't say for sure, but I wouldn't have been far away from tripping when I wrote "Sebastian". LSD, certainly, created so many incidents in your life, so many images, so much madness and mayhem, as well as great tranquility if you were lucky. I can't define its meaning. It's like most poetry, it's a lovely word."

Originally released in conjunction with the film Cocktail in 1988. Indian mystic Meher Baba (1894–1969) often used the expression "Don't worry, be happy" when cabling his followers in the West,[9] and the expression was printed on inspirational cards and posters during the 1960s. In 1988, McFerrin noticed a similar poster in the apartment of jazz duo Tuck & Patti in San Francisco,[citation needed] and he was inspired by the expression's charm and simplicity.

Written and produced by frontman Kelly Jones, it was used as the opening theme of the movie Wicker Park (2004) and was played during the credits at the end of the Academy Award-winning movie Crash (2004). It has more of a jazz ambience than some of their other songs; this and the whole album were considered a departure from the classic rock sound of previous album Just Enough Education to Perform.

"Oye Como Va" is a song written by Latin jazz and mambo musician Tito Puente in 1962. The title comes from the first words, which can be translated as "Listen to how [it] goes" or "Hey, how is it going".

The Dark Side of the Moon is the eighth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd, released on 1 March 1973 by Harvest Records. Primarily developed during live performances, the band premiered an early version of the record several months before recording began. New material was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Written by Steve Marriott (credited to Marriott/Lane). Tin Soldier was originally written by Steve Marriott for singer P.P. Arnold, but Marriott liked it so much he kept it himself. It was a song that he wrote to his first wife, Jenny Rylance. P.P. Arnold can be heard singing backing vocals on the song and also performed as guest singer at television recordings of the song.

According to Riesco, the song was recorded at guitarist Mike Campbell's garage in Los Angeles, California and mixed at Friar Park in Henley-on-Thames, England. Orbison gave his only public rendition of the hit at the Diamond Awards Festival in Antwerp, Belgium on November 19, 1988, 17 days before his death and before the single was released. This footage was incorporated into the song's music video. A 2014 version incorporated videos of rehearsal and practice sessions. "Spiritwalker" was written while the group was still Death Cult. It was never recorded by the group but was integrated into their set list during their second United Kingdom tour in late 1983. The song, musically, was much different, but, lyrically, it was nearly the same as the final recorded version. The song has its origins with Ian Astbury's earlier group, The Southern Death Cult. On 29 October 1981, at the group's second live performance ever, The Southern Death Cult played Queen's Hall in Bradford, England. During their set they performed an untitled song (later referred to as "The War Song") that featured many of the same lyrics as "Spiritwalker". The song was never performed by The Southern Death Cult again.

"He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" is a ballad written by Bobby Scott and Bob Russell. Originally recorded by Kelly Gordon in 1969, the song became a worldwide hit for The Hollies later that year and a minor hit for Neil Diamond in 1970. It has been recorded by many artists in subsequent years. Scott and Russell were introduced to each other by Johnny Mercer, at a California nightclub. Although Russell was dying of lymphoma and the pair met only three times, they managed to collaborate on the song.

FearlessFly comments on Mar 20, 2020:
"Short People" is a song by Randy Newman from his 1977 album, Little Criminals. The verses and chorus are lyrically constructed as a prejudiced attack on short people. In contrast, the bridge states that "short people are just the same as you and I." Newman interprets the song to be about prejudice, as was widely thought, but added, "The guy in that song is crazy. He was not to be believed."

FearlessFly comments on Mar 20, 2020:
The lyrics, written by Iggy Pop allegedly aboard Berlin's S-Bahn, have been interpreted as embodying the nomadic spirit of the punk outcast. Guitarist Ricky Gardiner composed the music. The song is loosely based on a poem by Jim Morrison. In an interview with The Guardian, Iggy Pop spoke about how "The Passenger" was partly inspired by travelling with David Bowie on tour, "...I’d been riding around North America and Europe in David’s car ad infinitum. I didn’t have a driver’s licence or a vehicle."

I think this is an excellent Op-Ed in today's New York Times.

(because of the lack of testing in the US) "those who have immunities can’t know it, and thus can’t know they are in a position to safely help those who are high risk." Good point, I had not thought about that.
