The Church dismissed sex abuse allegations against a priest. Now there are six more victims.
mischl comments on May 29, 2023:
How many people have learned that celibacy is unnatural. Making priests go without sex will always end up with some of them unable to abstain. It's nature. Duh.
Flyingsaucesir replies on May 30, 2023:
Are Catholic priests forced to be celibate? Not really, since no one is forced to be a Catholic priest. If they can't handle celibacy, they should either change Church law or join the laity.

@abyers1970 It's not that they shouldn't read such stuff; it's that they shouldn't be taught to believe it. Kids should be given the tools for critical thinking, and opportunities to apply them. The Bible should be viewed as fantasy/fiction literature, in the vein as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

@BufftonBeotch Yeah Trumpty Dumpty is absolutely a boor and a cad. Apparently he talks dirty about his own daughter too. But I know of nothing chargeable relating to minors. It was all adults that testified in the E. Jean Carroll case. What I have heard is that Jeffery Epstein and Elaine what's her name serially seduced/used/abused a number underage women in a sort of revolving door operation. Evidence that stood up in court was presented. That's the standard we should always adhere to.
It is all bullshit.

You're right, Done Cheato's star is fading. But he's still the frontrunner in the Republican primary, and he does have a shot at becoming president again. As such, he is a menace to American democracy. That in itself makes him an object of interest. But that is only deep background to this cartoon. Up front is the fact that he was just hit with a $5 million judgement for sexual battery and defamation, and within 3 dozen hours he repeated the defamation on national TV. And now his victim has filed another action with the court. This time she's asking for $10 million. Mind you, in the first lawsuit, E. Jean Carroll did not ask for a specific dollar amount. The jury came up with the $5 million figure on their own. On seeing how little efféct having to cough up $5 million had on Cheato's behavior, the next jury is likely to dial up the cost of running his mouth. Don't you think?

@Castlepaloma When you have people in great numbers, as we do today, you have to have laws, and the means to enforce them. Otherwise you'll have nothing but anarchy, chaos, and rule of the gun (i.e. criminal gangs, war lords, cartels, mafias, etc.). If you want laws that are fair to everyone, then you need a representative body, a legislature, to write them. And then you will need another body, a judiciary,to interpret the laws. And you will need an executive to administer and implement the laws. Before you know it, you have a government. If the people who lead the various governmental branches are chosen by the people at large, there's a chance that the government will be fair and work for everyone's benefit. But the people who elect the government officials must be well-informed, and actively participate in the electoral process. They must be constantly vigilant, lest malign forces (like the afore-mentioned criminal gangs) take over the government and attempt to use it for their own selfish ends. Trump/MAGA is a prime example of such malign force. I find it very satisfactory that the system is holding Trump and his minions accountable. It's very encouraging. We may save this civilization yet. And I don't whine about having to pay taxes to keep the wheels of justice (and other government functions) rolling, because I know that [A] it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative, [B] I don't have a childish expectation that it will be perfect, and [C] I am reasonably confident that it's working, even though there is always room for improvement. 🙂
